Veronica Explains
Friendly reminder that you should consider everything you say on the Fediverse to be publicly available and archived by your adversaries, who can and will use it against you.

"Quiet public" isn't saving you from that. "Followers-only" isn't saving you from that. Don't assume your DMs are private either.

Ryan Clough :scremcat:
I immensely despise LinkedIn as a form of social media. I typically make a point to avoid it as much as I can.

…and…

As a recently jobless person, LinkedIn is a relatively frictionless way for me to get in touch with former coworkers/managers to push on potential job leads, and it has been invaluable for me in that respect.

I limit my "connections" only to people I actively know. I don't interact with long-form posts and opinions. I only post myself when I am actively looking, want to bump someone else who's looking, or maybe to congratulate someone on a new role.

I mostly avoid the "Feed" page. I don't contribute to the "Voice your opinion!" requests. I unfollow any of my former coworkers who cause a lot of "noise" by constantly interacting. In short, I take a very "Fedi" approach to LinkedIn timeline, and I think it works.

Dismissing other forms of social media as inferior is easy, but also a waste. Spend some time putting other forms of social media to work in a way that gives you what you want/need.

Bronwyn Harris
Today I worked with a third grader on multiplication. I told him that zero was an easy one to remember because it made all other numbers turn to zero. 4 x 0? Zero. A million times zero? Zero. I said, "Zero is a bully that way."

He said, "But in addition, zero never gets anywhere. It doesn't change a number at all. I think that's how it became evil; the wretched origin of zero." (yes, he really said that)

I said, "That sounds like a great story to write.

His eyes LIT UP and he said, "Please can I write that story?" When I agreed, he said "THIS is why I LOVE going to Bronwyn!"

The story is barely started but includes the lines:

“Zilch had a wretched soul because nobody wants to be zilch”

(That was because it doesn’t change the number in addition)

"But one day he discovered ’times’ and what it can do” (change all the other numbers to zero)

And then zilch laughs an evil laugh.
