Kelvin n0mql EN35ld<p>I'd let it drag on too long already... my Ham computer saying it encountered an error. It's old. Its HDD is well beyond MTBF.</p><p>Installing <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/AndysHamRadioLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AndysHamRadioLinux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> on a not-as-old Mac Mini.</p><p>Faster processor. More cores. More RAM.</p><p>If the old one was very good, this should be marvelous.</p><p>Damn, it's a long day, though.</p>
Kelvin n0mql EN35ld<p>I'm such a nerd.</p><p>I'm setting up an old <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/AndysHamRadioLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AndysHamRadioLinux</span></a> laptop to work with my newly-aquired <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/FT991A" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FT991A</span></a> so that I can do <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> things e.g. <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/FieldDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FieldDay</span></a> &amp; possibly <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/POTA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>POTA</span></a>. Upgraded <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/fldigi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fldigi</span></a> &amp; <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/flrig" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flrig</span></a> yesterday. Did a little <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/ReverseBeaconNetwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReverseBeaconNetwork</span></a> stuff. Made 2 <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/FT8" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FT8</span></a> QSOs this morning to verify some settings I changed. But the laptop on WiFi cannot ADIF cast to my other CQRLog on ethernet (router security).</p><p>Pasted it as alt txt on a pic in a private mastodon message to nobody. Then copied on other.</p>
Kelvin n0mql EN35ld<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.radio/@NO5IG" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>NO5IG</span></a></span> <br>My 2 <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> computers are a Raspberry Pi, &amp; a 2012 Mac Mini running <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/AndysHamRadioLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AndysHamRadioLinux</span></a> (xubuntu).</p><p>I've also a linux laptop not currently in use.</p><p>The McLinux one has been mostly very good at keeping its ports consistent past reboots, etc. Very helpful.</p><p>But I can only run <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/FreeData" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreeData</span></a> immediately after a reboot. If I have run WSJT-x, or JS8Call, et al, then FreeData will not be able to find both Audio ports. It finds one, but not the other (the RX audio port is missing, IIRC).<br>...</p>
Kelvin n0mql EN35ld<p>This is weird, &amp; maddening. I'm using <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/AndysHamRadioLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AndysHamRadioLinux</span></a> on an older Mac Mini.</p><p>It's clock has been rock solid. Every time I check time.is, it says "exact".</p><p>There were some updates this past week which required a restart.</p><p>Since then, the clock drifts terribly. I can set it, but it's as if something broke the built-in NTP. And since I didn't set up the NTP stuff (and there are several options for how it could've been done), I don't know WHAT broke.</p>
Kelvin n0mql EN35ld<p>As is typical every several days, <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/AndysHamRadioLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AndysHamRadioLinux</span></a> (i.e.<a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/Xubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Xubuntu</span></a> ) notified me that there were updates.</p><p>Had to say "install now" and provide my password twice (usually it's only once).</p><p>And, oh shoot, this last one requires a reboot. OK, fine... reboot.</p><p>AND ONCE AGAIN, linux has re-arranged my USB ports because of a reboot.</p><p>AND ONCE AGAIN, I have to restart JS8Call in order to get it to really REALLY change USB ports and actually work.</p><p>PITFA</p>
