Adam Wilbert<p>Snuck into the garage earlier today for a small bit of soldering time, and got <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BalloonBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BalloonBox</span></a> put together. Loaded on an Arduino blink sketch to make sure things were a-okay, and we're off to the races. Now I need to get the switches all configured in MobiFlight for flight simulator and build an enclosure.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Arduino" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Arduino</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/PCB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PCB</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Circuitboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Circuitboard</span></a></p>
Adam Wilbert<p>My first PCBs arrived and they look really great! One step closer to my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/flightsim" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>flightsim</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BalloonBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BalloonBox</span></a>.</p>
Adam Wilbert<p>Laying out the faceplate for my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BalloonBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BalloonBox</span></a> flight sim controller. Thinking of sending this off to the PCB fab as well with just a white solder mask and black screen print, no electrical bits. PCBWay also has aluminum substrate with clear mask, which would be nice, but it's pricy.</p>
Adam Wilbert<p>Test fitting components on a 1:1 printout of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BalloonBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BalloonBox</span></a> PCB.</p>
Adam Wilbert<p>Getting close to finished on the design of my first <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/arduino" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arduino</span></a> powered PCB. Will send off to manufacture in a few days.</p><p>This will be a custom button box for balloon flying in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/msfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>msfs</span></a> with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MobiFlight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MobiFlight</span></a>.</p><p>I'll post more progress under <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BalloonBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BalloonBox</span></a></p>
Adam Wilbert<p>My little electronics projects have always been a tangle of wires, soldered and stuffed into boxes. One of my 2025 goals is to learn how to design and manufacture a few custom electronic PCBs. I'm spending a lot of time in the Fritzing docs and forums. Starting simple, here's a rough component layout draft for my ballooning button box for Flight Sim,</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Fritzing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fritzing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Arduino" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Arduino</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FlightSim" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FlightSim</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BalloonBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BalloonBox</span></a></p>
Adam Wilbert<p>Built a silly button box prototype with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MobiFlight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MobiFlight</span></a> for <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MSFS2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MSFS2024</span></a>. Now I can easily fly balloons, and it's a super chill experience in VR!</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BalloonBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BalloonBox</span></a></p><p><a href="https://video.adamwilbert.com/w/mfDrKMspvpkG3Nqozw8gSs" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">video.adamwilbert.com/w/mfDrKM</span><span class="invisible">spvpkG3Nqozw8gSs</span></a></p><p>Trying a bunch of new stuff here.
