Though the signs were on the wall it was still shocking to hear it from him. Today we are at that inflection point, with #AI our greatest threat.

If we allow #AI to become this all-pervasive thing that determines what we'll see on the internet, then we have lost and bent the knee to #BigTech and their billionaire owner class. And crazy techno-fascist ideologies will be introduced.

The ONLY internet that leads into a better future is The Decentralized Web. A web of autonomous, self-sovereign clients representing individual people and groups, who communicate in peer-to-peer and federated fashion.

It may have big services, but no Big Tech.

It's great to see @parismarx weighing in on the need for digital sovereignty here in Aotearoa NZ. A shift in posture with socio-political and even geo-political ramifications that is sorely overdue.

It would be great however for journalists to recognise the enduring efforts of so many locals arguing for just the same here, for a great many years, not to mention those local infrastructure providers already setup to host free and open source equivalents to US #BigTech

Germany does not want to tax big tech. Every time France comes up with a bold vision for Europe, it’s the Germans who complain again.

It’s like that guy you know who always needs to be against something, just on principle.

I find this whole argument convoluted. What do they think will Big Tech do if they get taxed? Kill the entire EU business and rather have no profits instead of less?

I swear I'll finish my little essay on Hyperion and Big Tech one of these days! I was able to carve out an hour or so of my schedule to work on it today. What's embarrassing is that it's not that long. Probably a 10 minute read, but I just want to do a good job. I keep saying I'll find more time to write but then what should I give up to find that time? I have so many little projects I want to do.
