Poesie<p>One small bunya pine cone from my first foraging excursion wouldn't open. So left it outside in the yard for a week or so. Noticed it was starting to open so looked to see if there were any nuts. Yes, but not many. Going to boil them up anyway and see how it goes.<br><a href="https://aus.social/tags/BunyaNut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BunyaNut</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/forage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>forage</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/BushTucker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BushTucker</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a></p>
Poesie<p>So a successful foraging experience. A spike from the biggest pine cone bit me enough to bleed. And i got a work out carrying them around the park. Poesie<p>Couldn't see any bunya pine cones up in the trees in the park, waiting to fall. So may have to wait till next season for more bush tucker cooking adventures. <a href="https://aus.social/tags/park" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>park</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/walk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>walk</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/TreesOfFediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TreesOfFediverse</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/BunyaPine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BunyaPine</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/BunyaNut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BunyaNut</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/BushTucker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BushTucker</span></a></p>
Poesie<p>The nuts that didn't turn out were brown inside and squishy. Bit sad i won't have enough to make anything. But it's been exciting just having a go.</p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/BushTucker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BushTucker</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/BunyaNut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BunyaNut</span></a></p>
Poesie<p>One bunya nut out of all those turned out. And it was yummy. Nutty but also a bit like a really nice potato chip or roast potato. Going to try again and hope for more nuts working out.<br><a href="https://aus.social/tags/BushTucker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BushTucker</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/BunyaNut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BunyaNut</span></a></p>
Poesie<p>Still not ready (bunya nuts are meant to open a little at one end). Water has changed colour though.<br><a href="https://aus.social/tags/BushTucker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BushTucker</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a></p>
Poesie<p>Bunya nuts extracted from the cone (pretty easy though hands got a little sticky so maybe wear gloves if your skin is sensitive). Now on the boil. </p><p>Saw another vid that said discard the ones that float because they won't have enough nut to be worth it. Over 90% of mine float so does not bode well. Not discarding them at this point.</p><p>Curious to see how they work out. </p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/BushTucker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BushTucker</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a></p>
Poesie<p>Saw another larger fallen bunya pine and couldn't resist. Foraged it and the one i saw yesterday as well. Going to try prepping them today, hopefully. </p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/park" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>park</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/walk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>walk</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/forage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>forage</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/BushTucker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BushTucker</span></a></p>
Poesie<p>Noticed a bunya cone had fallen to the ground. Looked like a bird had a peck. Nuts to be good tucker for people too. S. K. Riley<p>The magenta lilly pilly is a rainforest tree with a total population of around 1,200 plants spread across a narrow 400 kilometre stretch of coastal NSW. </p><p>Plants produce white flower-clusters at the end of each branch between November and February.
