Most tariffs on U.S. still active, Canada's finance minister says
nationalpost.com/news/canada/m

"Champagne’s post is pushing back on a May 13 report from Oxford Economics. The note from economists Tony Stillo and Michael Davenport said recent government exemptions to tariffs covered so many categories of products that the result was a “nearly zero” increase in Canada’s tariff rate against the US."

Liberals will table a budget this Fall
cbc.ca/news/politics/federal-b

I'm still disappointed that they're not tabling a budget this Spring. They were re-elected after all, so they ought to have something partially developed they could finalise and present before Parliament rises in late June. But this is an improvement over what we were promised earlier in the week...

CBCLiberals will table a budget this fall, Prime Minister Mark Carney says | CBC NewsPrime Minister Mark Carney said Sunday morning in Rome that his Liberal government will table a budget this fall — a decision he argued is the right one because there’s “not much value” in rushing out a budget at the earliest opportunity.

@johnefrancis During the election, partisans used to claim that #MarkCarney is one of the top economists in the world; to which the half-joking response was that Mr. Carney isn't even the top economist running for the #Liberals. Mr. Leitão was the best Finance Minister Québec has had in twenty years, maybe longer.

(If you're curious, in Canadian federal elections a tie is resolved by holding a by-election: cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edwa )

I've been waiting for the final seat results to evaluate my prediction. Putting aside Terrebonne, there are four other judicial recounts to complete.

That was a tight election.

CBCByelection, coin toss, paper chits: Election tiebreaking in Canada | CBC NewsA P.E.I. provincial election recount resulted in a tie Tuesday and, according to the province's Election Act, that called for a tiebreaking coin toss.

We recently learned that the Liberals had, after all, won the #Terrebonne riding by 1 vote. But it turns out that that is not the end of the matter.

One of the electors in Terrebonne sent in a ballot by mail, but it wasn't delivered by Canada Post, since Elections Canada had put the wrong postal code onto the envelope. Should that ballot be counted? Are there more ballots like it?

For what it's worth, the voter says her ballot would tie the result.

CBCLiberals won Terrebonne, Que., riding by 1 vote — but this woman's Bloc ballot wasn't counted | CBC NewsA resident of Terrebonne in Quebec says her vote could’ve made the difference in the election, but it didn’t count because her mail-in vote was returned to sender.

@AWolfInCheapClothing

Yeah, this is mostly BS.

The moment they lost the #QuebecReferendum in #1995, the leader of the #PartiQuebecois IMMEDIATELY blamed "money and the ethnic vote."

Modern #Quebecois are no better; see #Bill21.

They may be right about the #UCP "wanting an oil based future," (the UCP really are villains from an episode of #CaptainPlanet) but ultimately, the only difference is one group are #racist #Anglophones and the other group are racist #Francophones.

Montreal family searching for living organ donor for 2-year-old daughter

Carmella is living with a rare disease that severely affects her kidney function. She'll soon need a kidney transplant, ideally from a living donor so it can serve her longer. Her family says the search is on.

I'm getting fed up with the *tsunami* of awful articles about USA, Trump, Gaza, racism, anti LGBTQI, misogyny, crime, corruption, trade, tariffs, environment, animal extinction, polar ice melting, ICE raids, wars ...

We need links and advice about what we the ordinary ppl can actually DO to be proactive and help.

Every day Im left hanging, emotionally wiped out, bc it's all so much and i feel SO FRIGGIN POWERLESS. And governments aren't doing what needs to be done.
Am i the only one ??
How can i help ??

@jace

I feel for our American neighbors. Really I do. But when I see someone like this, my flat response is that we have enough troubles on our side of the border without inviting any more from down below.

Someone wants to claim that we have a responsibility to provide support out of the goodness of our hearts, to even further enrich the kleptocrats fucking everything up down there, while impoverishing ourselves?

Nope. I'm not buying tainted US produce or typhoid-ridden US meat just to be nice, and I resent the implication that it's a moral virtue to do so.

Bring us the folks who need to escape (and aren't worse than your garden-variety asshole, says the garden-variety asshole). We know that groups who join and contribute to a community are incalculably valuable, even if it's just by BEING HERE. We'll (hopefully!) provide support and aid to all we can.

But when it comes to a demand to surrender our sovereignty by someone who's upset their Switch 2 was too expensive?

Elbows the fuck up.
