🇨🇦 Steve<p>Liam O'Brien is my role model when it comes to how to blend mechanics and role play in TTRPG. He explains what he's doing ("I rub some ash and guano together"), and throws in the key words to indicate the mechanics he's using ("…and cast fireball"). That's a lot of fun.</p><p>Last session I described my character, who was hiding on top of bookshelf, darting closer to the action on the shelf and flipping through the air to come down on the pinned enemy katana first. The reason that <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/CriticalRole" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CriticalRole</span></a> got popular was that they were, first and foremost, professional entertainers, not that they played <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/DnD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DnD</span></a>. </p><p>There are way too many actual plays that fail to realize this. </p><p>Like, nobody will want to watch your average nerd running a RPG for their friends, no matter how fancy their cameras, gaming table and minis are. At best, it's boring. At worst, it's actively annoying.</p>
