#Degoogling #android sure ain't easy.

Certain apps reliance upon #GooglePlay makes it almost impossible to get rid of.

For instance, I've got an app for a grocery store that allows payment through your card by just scanning a QR code.

The payment method refuses to be activated when the Google Play app is deactivated.

It's pretty obvious to anyone: this is #MonopolyByDefault, #VendorLockin and even a form of #DRM.

I already confirmed my identity by way of #BankID. What more is needed?

A new QR code generator has emerged to rescue you from #DRM panic, as if scanning pixels will unlock the secrets of life 🔓📱. Meanwhile, #Rust continues its awkward journey to take over the Linux kernel, much like a hipster crashing a metal concert 🤘🦀. Don't worry, the quick start guide is there to help you trip over yourself even faster 🚀📚.

Similarly, #consumers cut back on "non-essential spending" as well, as #Greedflation & #Shrinkflation bleeds them dry.

Or to put in the words of #GabeNewell: "Piracy is always a service problem!"

  • And given how #Valve turned their #OnlineDRM aka. #Steam into something that #IndieDevs get bullied into publishing on, there's certainly some weight to it, as even #EpicGames struggles to get even a tiny market share from Valve's de-facto #monopoly despite burning through millions if not billions of money to give away #games (after all they still need to pay the licensees/publishers/creators of the games they give away)...

Add to that the obnoxiousness of #AlwaysOnlineDRM that makes modern Games literally unplayable when the #Publishers decide to kill the infrastructure needed for it.

  • Steam at least does have contingencies in place to actually remove it's #DRM and allow users to get a #DRMfree copy of their games if they were to close shop but that's not the norm in the industry. Otherwise #StopKillingGames would not be necessary as a petition.

Have you already signed the #EU petition #StopKillingGames? If not, do it right now! ⚠️ There is not much time left.

The petition seeks to enable customers to play their video games even after official publisher/developer support has ended, preventing the destruction of important cultural goods.
