I never used Facebook etc. but from what I can tell the fediverse social experience is very different from corporate social media. It feels more like the old web.

Like shopping at Walmart vs. shopping at a variety of shops downtown. The difference isn't just an ethical one, the human experience on Mastodon, Pixelfed etc. is richer and more diverse too.

Linux Is Best

Mastodon, maybe the more popular platform, but it is also the most vulnerable.

Most Mastodon sites use USA Domain Extensions, or word-based domain extensions, managed by corporations within the United States.

A good part of the Fediverse could be pulled down easily, and many of you will brag, "but I host my site overseas in a random country" -- That protects your files and database, yes, but your domain name is still your weakest link.
