Kernel Bob<p>Is there a name for this kind of coupling where big blocks interlock to transmit torque?</p><p>I first saw something like this in a 1960s Honda motorcycle between the rear sprocket and the wheel hub. Part of it was hard rubber to absorb shocks.</p><p>🧵 2/2</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/3DPrinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3DPrinting</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Fusion360" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fusion360</span></a></p>
Kernel Bob<p>This is just an experiment to use TPU and PETG in the same print. The TPU insert snaps into the PETG recess, and when they're screwed together, they make an adjustable joint that holds its position. So yes, I can combine the materials.</p><p>Is it useful for something? Maybe. I was thinking about making an adjustable arm for a light. But I'll buy one if I can find what I want.</p><p>🧵 1/2</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/3DPrinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3DPrinting</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Fusion360" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fusion360</span></a></p>
Andreas Sikkema<p>Does anyone know of a <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/3Dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3Dprinting</span></a> resource that explains how to *work* with <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/fusion360" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fusion360</span></a>? </p><p>My dad has decades of experience with <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Autocad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Autocad</span></a> and 2D drawing but that was some time ago, way before his retirement. He is pretty good with computers, but the 3D way of working and Fusion itself are a challenge. The standard Fusion books appear to be light on the process/strategies of using the app.</p><p>Anyone have recommendations?</p>

Kernel Bob<p>Geometric construction in Fusion 360 challenges me. But today I managed to create a crush rib hole outline based on three parameters: outer diameter, inner diameter, and number of lobes. The end result has equal radius for the innnies and the outies.</p><p>I tried to make a sketch that shows all the steps.</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Fusion360" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fusion360</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/CAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CAD</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/3DPrinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3DPrinting</span></a></p>
Kernel Bob<p>Anyway, the tricky G2-continuous shape is now on the tool wall. It's a tray for this dual tape dispenser. (It absolutely did not need to be G2-continuous. I just wanted to play.)</p><p>🧵 17/N</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/ToolWall" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ToolWall</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Fusion360" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fusion360</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/3DModeling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3DModeling</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/IkeaHacks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IkeaHacks</span></a></p>
Kernel Bob<p>I made a relatively simple thing that brings Fusion 360 to its knees. As in, every change, no matter how trivial, takes over a minute to recompute.</p><p>It's the outline shown above, extruded and filleted, then chamfered around the top edge. It ran fine until the chamfer. F360 can't calculate the chamfer directly; I had to do nonsense with a tapered extrusion.</p><p>🧵 14/N</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/ToolWall" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ToolWall</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Fusion360" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fusion360</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/3DModeling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3DModeling</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/G2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>G2</span></a></p>
Kernel Bob<p>Today is G2 continuity day! I learned this morning that Fusion 360 can do G2 continuous fillets, and I needed to model this anyway...</p><p>According to the color map (right image), the fillets are G2 to the bottom, but the small fillet isn't G2 to the sides. And the corners are awful. I don't know what to do about those.</p><p>If you think this is going to be another Gridfinity bin, you're close but not right.</p><p>🧵 13/N</p><p><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/ToolWall" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ToolWall</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/3DModeling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3DModeling</span></a> <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Fusion360" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fusion360</span></a></p>

Jer 🚵🏼<p>Maybe this will reach a Fusion 360 expert.<br />Trying to parameterize a bike strap model to motr easily make different lengths. It starts off with a coil (which determines length, thickness) which is extruded. Then an oval hole is made added with pattern on path used to replicate it down rest of the band. Overall most of it works when changing length, but pattern on path gets messed up. I think it boils down to start point needing to be dragged back to original hole, then distance and quantity manually adjusted. Just wondering if there&#39;s a programmatic way of doing this instead of manually editing features each time. I suppose learning Freecad might be long term an option.</p><p><a href="https://techhub.social/tags/fusion360" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>fusion360</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/3dPrinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>3dPrinting</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/FreeCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FreeCAD</span></a></p>

Mr Intergalactic Keyboard<p>Mark 2, test prints feel good.. Might make the inner base fillet slightly larger to prevent dust buildup. Took a few experiments to get the inner upper shelf edge built in a parametric way. CAD is fun like legos or tetris. <br>I’ll post this on thingiverse &amp; etc. eventually and include a lid and divider inserts. <br>Fits IKEA Kallax nicely. I’d like to make facades that vertically slide into the front, still figuring that part out. <br><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3dprinting</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/fusion360" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fusion360</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/box" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>box</span></a></p>
