Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>This weather is very time consuming. Twice now I've gathered up all my tools and brought them inside due to approaching weatherfronts. The first one didn't even bring rain, the second just a few drops.</p><p>Now it's thundering loudly but with sunshine. I'm confused. If I get my tools out again, I'm sure it will rain.</p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Weather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Weather</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Homestead" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Homestead</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Rain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Rain</span></a></p>
Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Went for a sunset walk in the meadow yesterday. In full horsefly armor: fleece jacket, netted hat, gloves 😆 </p><p>Counted ~25 tractor eggs, three failed, waterlogged ones (the plastic wrap ran out and nobody noticed) and one giant cardboard tube that the plastic wrap comes on, which I carried home.</p><p>Chicken (the cat) was out there hunting, as were our storks.</p><p>Didn't go down the valley yet as it was getting dark and the path was very slippery from the heavy rain.</p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Homestead" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Homestead</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Meadow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Meadow</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Hay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Hay</span></a></p>

Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Ok, the roof is on. Looks horrible. Slum shack style!</p><p>I'll have to spiffy that up a little, don't like it right now. Add facia, bend some steel around them, fix that one rafter that is lower because the recycled wood was thinner at one end and I forgot to shim it 😢</p><p>Also my pop riveter is FUBAR so I couldn't rivet the sheets together where they're joined between rafters. Perhaps should've added slats, but that felt overkill for a firewood roof :)</p><p>But, the roof is on, wood can finally stay dry. That is happy news. Also, bunch of steel put to use instead of laying in a pile in the garden. And so far the only thing I paid for was screws.</p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Homestead" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Homestead</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Recycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Recycling</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Roof" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Roof</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Firewood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Firewood</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Construction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Construction</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Steel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Steel</span></a></p>

Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>This one's from the attic where I've been hunting mice.</p><p>Much more modern than the wooden ones from the other day. I quickly brushed the rust off and sharpened the blade, which looked like its hardly seen any use. Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Scrap collection.</p><p>After sorting that sheetmetal, I drove around the farm and picked up some scrap metal that is definitely destined for the junkyard.</p><p>Piled it up behind the big barn for now. Should have a car trailer full soon.</p><p>Since both northern scrap dealers are being accused of cheating (not letting you see the scale when weighing in/out, wtf), I think we'll wait until the road to Vilnius is upgraded and haul it there. I hate cheaters :-P</p><p>Another full day of work complete. Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Huh, he already came back this evening with a swather, so it's all in neat rows now. Probably will bale it tomorrow then.</p><p>Different tractor too. Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Hunting for a roof in various piles of hoarder treasures.</p><p>The house roof scraps looked promising. A bunch of triangular offcuts from when the house got a new roof. But upon sorting them by shape, only two triangles matched to form a rectangle, the rest were unmatched sides. Not enough.</p><p>The next option was galvanized metal sheets. Not as nice, already used a few times, but there's a big pile in the garden that needed sorting anyways.</p><p>Ants got disturbed and carried their eggs to safety and a frog hopped away into the thicket.</p><p>One pile for the scrap metal dealer, one pile small pieces to keep and one pile large pieces to check into further.</p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Scrap" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Scrap</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Metal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Metal</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Recycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Recycling</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Roof" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Roof</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Homestead" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Homestead</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a></p>

Y⃒̸̷̝̜̙ͥͥͥngmar<p>Our meadow got mowed.</p><p>A perennial meadow must be mowed once per year. Else the agricultural spy plane will spot it and flag it as "abandoned land" and automatically issue a fine.</p><p>So this morning a tractor with a disc mower showed up and cut it all down. He left without doing the difficult to access river valley though. Luckily <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/@vaviurka" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>vaviurka</span></a></span> caught him chatting to someone down the road.</p><p>He thought the valley was still blocked with fallen trees, but upon learning I'd cleared those last winter, he came back, folded his mower all the way up and carefully crept his big tractor down the steep access road.</p><p>Tomorrow he'll come back to rake.
