Forget #datacenters— Air conditioning will contribute more to rising global #energy demand than data centers through 2030. While focus on computing power, #IEA projects data centers will account for <10% of increased energy demand by 2030, significantly less than cooling. Global cooling degree days, a measure of air conditioning need, were 6% higher in 2024 than 2023 and 20% above average for the first two decades of the century.

Trotz besserer #Methan-Daten und mehr Transparenz bleiben die weltweiten Emissionen aus der #Energiebranche laut #IEA zu hoch.

70 % ließen sich mit bestehender Technik vermeiden, oft sogar kostendeckend. 2024 hätten so zusätzlich 100 Milliarden Kubikmeter #Erdgas nutzbar gemacht werden können. Große Lecks und verlassene Anlagen tragen erheblich zur Belastung bei.

Now the #EIA has privately informed staff it is scrapping publication of its closely followed International #Energy Outlook for 2025. The previous edition of the international outlook, released every 2 years, contained 70 pgs detailing global trends. The paradox: That will leave the field open to the equivalent publication from the Paris-based International Energy Agency [#IEA], which #conservatives accuse of bending its forecasts to promote #ClimateChange goals.
