Nearly 300 people from Newtok, Alaska, have moved nine miles across the Ninglick River to a new village called Mertarvik as part of a federally funded effort to resettle communities threatened by climate change.

But much of the infrastructure there is already failing, according to our investigation with The Washington Post and KYUK.

"According to Honneth, if the idea of socialism is to regain its power of mobilization, one has to leave behind all these three claims. Socialism should be (re)conceived as a process of expanding freedom that takes place in all three spheres; cooperation and solidarity instead of competition in the sphere of productivity; the freedom of individuals in the public sphere, a freedom which renders possible the democratic formation of their collective will; and freedom from oppression in the intimate sphere." Slavoj Žižek (The courage of hopelessness)

Sounds oddly familiar almost like Indigenous values? Or am I misunderstading?

"You raise your flag of progress; I raise the flag of nature."

This powerful line encapsulates the essence of Jungle Cha Raja, a compelling rap by 28-year-old Adivasi artist and activist Mahi G. Hailing from Kalyan, Maharashtra, she uses her music as a medium to assert Indigenous identity and resistance.

Through this rap, @mahig_55 brings attention to the deep connection between Adivasi

communities and their natural environment-Jal (water), Jungle (forest), and Jameen (land)- elements that are not just resources but integral to their identity and existence.

Mahi G's work extends beyond music; she is an activist who addresses various social issues, including caste discrimination and climate change. Her lyrics are not performance - they are protests. Her verses carry generations of lived resistance.

Peru’s Supreme Court has upheld the land rights of the Kichwa people, affirming their legal claim to ancestral territories in the Amazon.

The case is a major precedent for Indigenous land tenure and will protect thousands of hectares of primary rainforest from logging and mining. #peru #Indigenous #LatinAmerica #environment #Nature

<< In doing so, missionary and colonial institutions both reimagined and reframed African social structures to align with Victorian ideals, embedding rigid gender roles and heteronormative family models into the social fabric and inventing supposedly ancient and unchanging “traditions” to support them. >>
