#Immigration #judges in #US dismissed cases of men sent to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act without due process. Some have ordered these men deported in absentia, despite the fact that their very failure to appear in court is a direct result of the government’s actions.

One of the cases dismissed was that of Andry José Hernández Romero, a gay makeup artist who was seeking asylum because of fear of persecution in Venezuela...

Mother JonesTrump disappeared them to El Salvador. Now, they're being erased by immigration courts. At least 14 cases of Venezuelans sent to a Salvadoran megaprison have been dismissed by US immigration judges.

This comes as a pretty big shock because as we all know Donald Trump is not a paranoid person and he certainly never turns on anyone ever. He's loyal and sane and a stable genius who knows all the words! youtu.be/fXkJhQDx-QQ?... #donaldtrump #trump #doj #fbi #uspoli #judges #impeachment #impeach

VERY PARANOID Trump TURNS AGAI...

#Judges use #contempt to bring a party into compliance, usually by ratcheting up measures from #fines to #jail. Once the party complies, the penalties cease.

In 2022, when #Trump was out of office, he was held in contempt & fined $10k by a NY state judge for each day that he failed to produce documents that were subpoenaed in a civil probe of his private business practices that was led by the NYAG. Trump eventually complied after paying $110k.

#FederalCourts have been a major check on #Trump in his second term, as plaintiffs in dozens of cases have gotten judges to block his policies. Bonds were not required in the vast majority of those cases, so if the #House bill provision became #law, #judges would be unable to enforce #contempt orders.

While no judge has issued a contempt order, several federal judges have said Trump admin ofcls appeared to be defying court orders & are at risk of being held in contempt.

#Judges often don't require bonds in cases against the #government. In a case by two small toymakers against the #Trump admin #tariffs, the plaintiffs said the bond that had been requested by the government would be more costly than tariffs & would nullify the benefit of an injunction. The judge on Thurs set the bond at $100 & blocked the tariffs against the 2 companies.

The provision follows a White House memo in March that directed heads of govt agencies to request that plaintiffs post a bond if they are seeking an #injunction against an agency policy. The #Trump admin said the measure would deter *frivolous* lawsuits.

The Trump admin & the #House #Judiciary Cmte did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Trump has attacked #judges who ruled against his government but he has also *said* he would obey #SCOTUS [but hasn’t].

#Trump's sweeping tax-cut #bill includes provision to weaken #court powers

The tax-&-spending bill that would enact Trump's policy agenda includes a provision that would weaken the #power of US #judges to enforce #contempt when the #government defies court orders.

The 1-sentence provision in the 1,100-pg bill prevents #FederalCourts, including #SCOTUS, from enforcing contempt orders unless the plaintiffs have posted a monetary bond….

“Threats against federal judges have risen drastically since President Trump took office… In the 5-month period leading up to March 1 of this year, 80 individual #judges had received #threats... Then, over the next 6 weeks, an additional 162 judges received threats, a dramatic increase. That spike in threats coincided with a flood of harsh rhetoric — often from Mr. Trump himself — criticizing judges who have ruled against the administration…” | NYT nytimes.com/2025/05/27/us/poli

#Judges Keep Calling #Trump’s Actions #Illegal, but Undoing Them Is Hard. #Courts are serving as a rare check on President #Trump, but #judicial orders to unwind his actions can be easier said than done. #Trump and his team have acted #lawlessly in egregious ways, #judges emphatically said — the real-world consequences may vary. And the slow pace of #litigation means the #judiciary is often many steps behind and in some cases, unable to catch up. nytimes.com/2025/05/23/us/poli #DemocracyPhotography

President Trump and his team acted lawlessly in egregious ways, judges have said, but the real-world consequences of their findings may vary.
