Pedro Lamas<p>Most 3D printers out there run free <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> software like <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Marlin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Marlin</span></a>, <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Octoprint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Octoprint</span></a>, <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Klipper" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Klipper</span></a>, <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Moonraker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Moonraker</span></a>, <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Mainsail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mainsail</span></a>, <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Fluidd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fluidd</span></a>, <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Kiauh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kiauh</span></a>, etc.</p><p>The fact that you paid for your 3D printer doesn't mean that any of that money reached the developers giving their time to create and maintain the software it runs.</p><p>The rule of thumb is that if you use free open-source software, please consider sponsoring the developers and maintainers of said software.</p><p>Thank you! 🙂</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/3DPrinter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>3DPrinter</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/3DPrinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>3DPrinting</span></a></p>
Pete Keen<p>Ok. I did the thing. I had <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/kiauh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kiauh</span></a> set up two <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/klipper" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>klipper</span></a> and Moonraker instances, uploaded the Klipper firmware to my raspberry pi pico, and then set it up like this:</p><p>- Pico Klipper is a "none" printer type with one [gpio_pin] entry named "relay1"</p><p>- Main Moonraker has a [power] entry that uses generic http to drive the Pico Moonraker's relay1</p><p>- result: I can control printer power over USB from Mainsail through a Rube Goldberg machine of http servers</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/3DPrinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>3DPrinting</span></a></p>
Stark<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@Rob_J" class="u-url mention">@<span>Rob_J</span></a></span> </p><p>You are looking for something like <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/KIAUH" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>KIAUH</span></a>. Here is a quick link to just see what it looks like, I think I actually used this page when I installed it a few weeks ago, but I definitely used KIAUH.</p><p><a href="https://www.obico.io/blog/install-klipper-with-kiauh/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">obico.io/blog/install-klipper-</span><span class="invisible">with-kiauh/</span></a></p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://techhub.social/@3dprinting" class="u-url mention">@<span>3dprinting</span></a></span> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>3dprinting</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Klipper" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Klipper</span></a></p>
Stark<p>I chose <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Raspbian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Raspbian</span></a> OS lite to get a fresh, fast, and clean <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/RadpberryPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RadpberryPi</span></a>. It was not only recommended, but I wanted to use <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/KIAUH" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>KIAUH</span></a> ratger than using <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/MainsailOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MainsailOS</span></a>.</p><p>This gave me more storage space, and I also knew what was already installed.</p><p>This also solved one of my problems when I used <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Klipper" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Klipper</span></a> with <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Octoprint" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Octoprint</span></a> and <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/OctoKlipper" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OctoKlipper</span></a>.</p><p>I had a &quot;mcu error,&quot; which I never could get a solution for. I had to restart my printer and Klipper repeatedly until they finally would connect.</p><p>This was solved by following the <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Mainsail" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Mainsail</span></a> and <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/KIAUH" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>KIAUH</span></a> docs and installing the Raspberry Pi MCU firmware.</p><p>These problems are now solved.</p><p>And damn, is this blazing fast.</p><p>Although I did clean my fan and heatsink and decided to <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/overclock" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>overclock</span></a> my Raspberry Pi, the UI is so responsive I can live without my printer screen.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://techhub.social/@3dprinting" class="u-url mention">@<span>3dprinting</span></a></span> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>3dprinting</span></a></p>
Stark<p>Although I enjoyed my <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Klipper" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Klipper</span></a> transition. I stayed with <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Octoprint" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Octoprint</span></a>, which was actually the final straw.</p><p>Although I could live without my printer&#39;s display, the lag and sluggish and slow <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/UI" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UI</span></a> of Octoprint just pushed me over the limit. I felt as if I couldn&#39;t react to my printer anymore.</p><p>So with a heavy heart, I removed my SD card, wiped it and installed a clean version of <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Raspbian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Raspbian</span></a> OS Lite, and used <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/KIAUH" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>KIAUH</span></a> to install <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Klipper" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Klipper</span></a>, <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Mainsail" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Mainsail</span></a>, <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/KlipperScreen" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>KlipperScreen</span></a>, <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Crowsnest" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Crowsnest</span></a>, <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Moonraker" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Moonraker</span></a> and <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Octoeverywhere" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Octoeverywhere</span></a></p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://techhub.social/@3dprinting" class="u-url mention">@<span>3dprinting</span></a></span> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>3dprinting</span></a></p>
