Rohit Farmer, Ph.D.<p>There is so much good available in the public domain. I just found LibriVox, a volunteer-run audiobook project for public domain books. The quality is okay and depends on the volunteer's skills and equipment, but it's free even without making an account. </p><p>I use it on my phone and it works well with Android Auto. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/audiobooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>audiobooks</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reading</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/literature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>literature</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/AndroidAuto" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AndroidAuto</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/librivox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>librivox</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://librivox.org/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">librivox.org/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>

Bok<p>I was watching _Terry Talks Movies_ on <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/YouTube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>YouTube</span></a> last night, and he made a passing comment about some old <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/MovieSerials" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MovieSerials</span></a>, including one called _The Mysterious Doctor Satan_, which drew my interest. But given that the hero in that serial is name the Copperhead, the villain's name is just a coincidence, and has nothing to do with the Paul Ernst novellas in _Weird Tales_.</p><p>However, searching on <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/YouTube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>YouTube</span></a> further, I found that a channel called _HorrorBabble_ has done readings of five of the eight Doctor Satan <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/pulp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pulp</span></a> thrillers, with them running about 1h15m. I may listen to one the next time I'm chopping vegetables for slow cooker stew.</p><p><a href="https://lor.sh/tags/Librivox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Librivox</span></a> has also done some Paul Ernst stories, but none of the <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/DoctorSatan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DoctorSatan</span></a> ones. I've already read three of the ones Librivox has, and have the other two in the waiting novelette pack.</p>

trainguyrom<p>This morning I finished War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells on <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/LibriVox" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LibriVox</span></a> I&#39;m really impressed with the vision for the evolutionary history for the martians and the overall arc of how the invasion progressed and the final ending where it&#39;s revealed how doomed the invasion was from the moment they emerged from their craft. Such a cool book!</p>

trainguyrom<p>During my long commutes I&#39;ve started going through H.G. Wells&#39; work last week via <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/LibriVox" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LibriVox</span></a> first with The Invisible Man (shocking how differently that might have ended had he been a more decent person to start with) and now The War of the Worlds</p><p>I&#39;m struck by how creative and unique H.G. Wells&#39; image for the martians is as well as by how I don&#39;t think I&#39;ve seen an homage to them in any sci-fi media</p>

The main character, Anne, is full of enthusiasm, wonder, and imagination and it is funny how the other more stiff characters try to make sense of her.</p><p><a href="https://raphus.social/tags/LibriVox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibriVox</span></a><br><a href="https://raphus.social/tags/FreeCulture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FreeCulture</span></a><br><a href="https://raphus.social/tags/publicDomain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>publicDomain</span></a></p>
David Ruffner<p>I finished the book Heidi, via the Librivox audio book. It ended up being a little too moralistic for me. I hadn't picked up on it as a kid when my dad read it to me. So I ended up skipping a bunch of chapters when Heidi went to school. I preferred the parts where Heidi was up on the mountain and free to play and explore.<br><a href="https://raphus.social/tags/LibriVox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibriVox</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://raphus.social/@davidruffner/113402321909300478" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">raphus.social/@davidruffner/11</span><span class="invisible">3402321909300478</span></a></p>
