I love it that local bakeries and pizza companies donate food to Jefferson Public Radio, our #NPR station here in southern Oregon and northern California, during their annual spring fund drive. Not to mention the army of volunteers that join the hosts and management to staff the drive, answer phones, and run errands. JPR, based on the campus of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, has the largest geographical reach of any NPR station in the country. Using a system of translators paired with its purchase of a number of low-power regional radio stations, the station’s signal reaches to the Oregon and California coasts, to eastern Oregon’s Lake County, down to Mendocino, California. I had the pleasure and privilege of serving on the station’s board of directors for a term. Learned a lot.

The part that caught my ear is the guy in charge (Lutnick) of putting this Broadband Equity Access deployment program forward (most states are shovel ready) might not do that or cut it somehow, leaving wired and fiber internet broadband out for many people.

So it'll cost more and be more expensive for most people.

But they could use Starlink, right?

Who does that benefit?

Hmmm. Wanna bet Mush has met with Lutnick?

“Bitches Brew” makes the Library of Congress archive of influential recordings along with Tracy Chapman’s eponymous recording, the Chicago Transit Authority eponymous recording, and Elton’s “Goodby Yellow Brick Road” recording. And more.

Miles is a giant. He set the direction of jazz 5 times in his career with Kind of Blue, Birth of the Cool, and Bitches Brew at top of mind. “Brew” was so radical in ‘69. Today, mainstream fusion. Miles Runs the VooDoo Down … #NPR #music

Analysis of how different media outlets covered the IDF massacre of the Palestinian medics in #Gaza. Reflecting on how language choices in headlines and leads can significantly impact public understanding of events, especially since many readers don't read beyond these elements. Indeed, often this is not journalism.

Hauntologies by Elia Ayoub · How Media Outlets Covered Israel's Massacre of Palestinian MedicsBy Elia Ayoub

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, if NPR only gets 1 or 2 percent of its funding from the Federal Government, it would be in their best interest to walk away. That can be made up elsewhere and it would remove any talking points. In the long term they would be better off.
