My cute little vampires.

The prolific yellow flowers are yellow rattle (Rhinanthus minor), a semi-parasitic plant that feeds primarily on grasses.

That there are so many of them this spring is cool and a little creepy.

I'm glad I'm not a grass in my front yard.

A short front yard meadow with lots of yellow rattle, a little blue common camas, and a couple gray clumps of Oregon sunshine, spread out in front of a shrub border featuring a large white flowered rugosa rose, a evergreen huckleberry, and a rosemary.

A ground hugging plant with multiple dark reddish brown short stems ending in three large delicate green heart shaped leaves with the points toward the stem. Small white flowers with five petals and longitudinal stripes hover above the leaves on slightly longer stems.

Ah, someone not in my usual network replied to my nootka-rose post with a really interesting comment relaying personal experience on how aggressive nootka roses can be. I forgot to reply to the post until now, but now I cannot find it.

If you replied to me about nootka roses being super aggressive, I appreciated your post! In fact I laughed very much.

Tall spikes of bright navy blue flowers rise from mounds of the palmately compound dark green leavesof the big leaf lupin (Lupinus polyphyllus). The flowers look like pea flowers, with blue keels and a white to pink splotch on the top petal. The flower spikes are blooming from the bottom up, with yellow green buds at the top. These plants are growing in a partially restored patch of Puget prairie, part of a Seattle Parks effort at restoration of native habitat.

Collected my first Antennaria plantaginifolia (Plantain-leaved Pussytoes) flower heads from the front courtyard bed today.

Planted them last summer and they're growing well.

From the garden in the past few weeks: 1) a rare spring-blooming ground cover, Hacquetia epipactis. Those green petals are actually bracts (like Poinsettia). 2) Tulips contrasted with Libertia 'Goldfinger'. 3) A gold leafed Dicentra with Hakonechloa 'All Gold'. 4) A Korean tassel fern (Polystichum polyblepharum) surrounded by our native redwood sorrel (Oxalis oregana). #gardening #nativeplants #PNW #bloomScrolling #Spring

I'm not a big fan of that "unboxing" thing but I've got to admit that it is quite exciting to receive something you really care about. I've ordered native plants during the winter and they arrived today! Yay!
