„Acknowledging Palestinian pain doesn’t threaten Jewish history. It makes space for shared humanity and invites us to hold multiple truths. (...)

Our theme, “Holding onto Home, Holding onto Hope,” reflects a longing not just for land, but for justice and a future of liberation and freedom - for all who call this place home.”

»Pope Leo XIV called for a #ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the war in Ukraine on Sunday (…). He spoke from the loggia of St. Peter's Basilica.

"I am deeply pained by what is happening," said Leo, referring to the war in Gaza. "Let the fighting cease immediately, let humanitarian aid be provided to the exhausted civilian population, and may all hostages be released.“«

I often think of how John McCrae couldn't have written what is likely the best-known Canadian poem, "In Flanders Fields" (1915), later in the war.

After the pointless, industrial-scale slaughter of the Somme (1916) and Passchendaele (1917), it's hard to imagine any soldier writing naïve, idealistic lines like these without gagging on them:

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.

"Why should we love our enemies? The first reason is pretty obvious. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction. So when Jesus says 'Love your enemies' [Matt. 5:44], he is setting forth a profound and ultimately inescapable admonition. Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies – or else? The chain reaction of evil – hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars – must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation." – Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love (Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1977), 53.

@itsthejoker Seriously, back in the late 1990s when I was an SGML/XML consultant, I told my then employer that I wasn't willing to work on documentation for weapons systems, and they respected that (even though those military contracts made up a huge portion of the available work at the time).

Fortunately, I got to work on a doc system for McDonnell-Douglas (later, Boeing) civilian airliners instead, and the consulting company did very well out of that, so win-win.

@TonyStark
Some of us pointed out that we never even had a choice in a place with election laws so corrupt that the “left” loves #austerity & #genocide.

Not only do they love genocide, they have armies of #PartisanHacks making impassioned pleas in support of a corporatist warmonger platform.

Dems refused to support leftist ideas like #nonviolence #policedemilitarization #singlepayer or not using tax revenue to fund #warcrimes

LESSER EVIL for the 35th election in a row!

“I ickevåldsamt motstånd, däremot, kan alla delta, efter sina egna förutsättningar – och de gör det också. Ju fler som ansluter, desto fler vågar i sin tur ansluta. Så växer sig protesterna stora.”
