Futurist Jim Carroll<p>**Megatrend #12** - Personalized, Precision Medicine: "Tomorrow's cure lies not in a universal pill, but within our own genetic code." - Futurist Jim Carroll</p><p>---</p><p>(Futurist Jim Carroll is writing a series on 30 Megatrends, which he first outlined in his book Dancing in the Rain: How Bold Leaders Grow Stronger in Stormy Times. The trends were shared in the book as a way of demonstrating that, despite any period of economic volatility, there is always long-term opportunity to be found. The book is now in print - learn more at dancing.jimcarroll.com)</p><p>---</p><p>The one-size-fits-all era in medicine is ending. Treatments, nutrition, and wellness approaches tailored to individual genetic profiles are becoming the standard, not the exception. As with every post in this series, there's a PDF here that goes into more depth on this trend.</p><p>There's a little bit of duplication with some of the material covered in previous megatrends with this one, but it's important ot note that this trend is powerful enough on its own to deserve its own post.</p><p>What's it all about? We are combining what we might call 'next-generation genomic sequencing', AI, and CRISPR gene editing, to come up with a new health paradigm that involves 'fixing people before they are sick rather than after.' Why these 3 trends? The cost for genomic sequencing is collapsing, AI is accelerating the ability to do so, and gene editing allows us to correct the genetic causes of disease at the source.</p><p>Before going further, it's important to define the revolution by understanding two key terms.</p><p>The first is Personalized Medicine, which uses an individual's unique genomic, environmental, and lifestyle information to guide decisions for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. It's based on the idea that because no two individuals are the same, they should not receive the same healthcare.</p><p>The second term is Precision Medicine. While often used interchangeably, it more accurately describes the strategy of stratifying individuals into small populations based on shared characteristics. It focuses on identifying which healthcare and pharmaceutical approaches will be most effective for those small, specific groups of people, rather than creating unique treatments for each individual.</p><p>While its potential is immense, the transition to personalized medicine is not merely a technological upgrade but a disruptive force that challenges the foundational structures of healthcare delivery, research, and regulation.</p><p>Even so, over the long term, it's one of the biggest megatrend opportunities of our time.</p><p>**<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/Personalized" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Personalized</span></a>** **<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/Medicine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Medicine</span></a>** **<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/Genomics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Genomics</span></a>** **<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/CRISPR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CRISPR</span></a>** **<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a>** **<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/Precision" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Precision</span></a>** **<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/Healthcare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Healthcare</span></a>** **<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/Genetics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Genetics</span></a>** **<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/Innovation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Innovation</span></a>** **<a href="https://mastodon.futurist.info/tags/Future" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Future</span></a>**</p><p>Original post: <a href="https://jimcarroll.com/2025/07/decoding-tomorrow-30-megatrends-12-personalized-medicine-tomorrows-cure-lies-not-in-a-universal-pill-but-within-our-own-genetic-code/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">jimcarroll.com/2025/07/decodin</span><span class="invisible">g-tomorrow-30-megatrends-12-personalized-medicine-tomorrows-cure-lies-not-in-a-universal-pill-but-within-our-own-genetic-code/</span></a></p>

Dear anyone who ever talks about probabilities, percentages, or voting,

Please stop describing a simple majority as, "[at least] 50% + 1." That description is incorrect whenever the total is an odd number. The correct description is, "more than 50%."

In case you didn't notice:

  1. In this context, it's implied that the answer has to be a whole number. There's no such thing as half a vote.
  2. The use of either "more than" or "at least," means you have to round up, not down. 5 is not at least 5.5, but 6 is.
  3. "More than" and "at least" mean different things. "4 is at least 4" is true, but "4 is more than 4" is false.

So for example, in a group of 21 people, "more than 50%" means "more than 10.5," which means "at least 11." Meanwhile, "at least 50% + 1" means "at least 10.5 + 1," which is "at least 11.5," which really means "at least 12."

Sincerely,

All of the world's programmers

The New Yorker · Do We Need Another Green Revolution?By Elizabeth Kolbert
We designed these earrings to echo the futuristic spirit of 1970s High Tech Architecture while paying homage to the symmetry and precision of 1930s Art Deco. It’s one of our favorite designs—not just visually, but also because of the unusual process required to create it.

As molten silver flows and crystallizes in the casting process, this particular structure traps a shocking amount of potential energy within its geometry. When the investment mold is broken away, that energy releases as motion—the form unravels and must then be annealed and carefully hand-twisted back into its precise configuration.

While this happens to some degree in all castings, the effect is especially pronounced here. This continuous maze of elongated, interwoven angles compressed into a large prismatic volume makes this design uniquely volatile. It reminds us why we do everything in-house, on our own equipment, with our own hands and eyes. With anything less than full focus and care, these would emerge a mangled knot—devoid of rhythm, elegance, or intention.

"Precision, prediction, and possibility - this is the future of care." - Futurist Jim Carroll

I'm off to speak at an event today that combines the themes of personalized and predictive medicine, medical device technology, and the future of manufacturing. It should be a great event!

As I open my upcoming keynote, one of the first visuals I’ll be sharing highlights a core message: medical device transformation and disruption are accelerating—fast.
This slide sets the stage with four key forces driving this transformation:

Changing relationship with personal health circumstances. Patients are becoming active participants in their care. With wearables, digital health platforms, and real-time data, individuals are managing their wellness proactively, not reactively.

New manufacturing design, development, and time-to-market methodologies. Technologies like 3D printing and additive manufacturing are collapsing innovation cycles. Rapid prototyping and agile development mean devices can move from concept to reality faster than ever before.

Acceleration of medical science. Breakthroughs in areas like genomics, bioengineering, and regenerative medicine are reshaping what’s possible in care. The speed of discovery is feeding directly into smarter, more adaptive devices.

Medical device intelligence. We’re now embedding AI into the very fabric of medical devices. These tools are no longer passive: they’re predictive, responsive, and increasingly autonomous in their ability to assist care decisions.

This is the convergence of diagnostics, therapeutics, and innovation.

And it supports the idea I’ll emphasize throughout the keynote:

“Precision, prediction, and possibility—this is the future of care.”

Who knows. I might be dancing in the rain!

TelegramPepe Escobar🇮🇷 | Iran Shocks the World with War of Attrition: Psychological Warfare and Strategic Precision Reshape the Conflict: In a stunning display of layered military strategy and psychological warfare, Iran has launched four successive waves of missiles and drones targeting Israel. Unlike conventional assaults, these attacks were calibrated to maximize psychological, logistical, and infrastructural pressure without giving the enemy time to prepare. Israeli media admitted that Iran is engaging in an unprecedented psychological war. What shocked them most in the recent waves was the stealth of the attack. Official announcements confirmed missile launches, but the skies remained visibly empty. This misdirection forced Israel to evacuate three districts of Tehran in anticipation of retaliation, while Iran carried out controlled, unpredictable strikes that created mass confusion. Several of the missile strikes bypassed Israeli air defense, hitting critical sites without triggering standard warnings. In Tel Aviv and central…
