Uzi BobuziOne of the reasons I'm more or less a luddite is because I was born in the 60s and reached adulthood in the early 80s. I wasn't raised swimming in this toxic water that all of us are stuck in now.It's not so much "old person afraid of change" as it is the fact that I remember how life was before we were embedded in a technological juggernaut and am acutely aware of how it is polluting us mentally. Yesterday Android updated its UI and I had about an hour of struggle in the morning trying to get the new UI to look and behave like the old one. Being on the spectrum I'm sensitive to changes like this. They're off-putting and jarring. They feel threatening. It is not healthy for us to constantly have the rug pulled out from under us and have to frantically re-balance ourselves. I honestly believe it is part of why "society" is going off the rails. There is no grounding anymore. No solid earth beneath our feet both metaphorically and actually. The barrage of advertising, fraught news cycles, social media posts is all part of what is making us quite literally ill both mentally and physically. At some point this has to end. Whether it ends with a human race still existing or not is the question. Human "intelligence" is more curse than blessing. Look at the harm we've done with it.
