I’m outta town so will have no ‘That’s the street up 🔊’ nonsense tomorrow so, here’s a flashback and a #NowPlaying albeit digitally, after a hefty week finally relaxing and taking a breath and a glug of grape juice 🍷

This song live gives me fucking goosebumps and tears.

"Thick cloud, steam rising
Hissing stone on sweat lodge fire
Around me, buffalo roam
Sage in bundle, rub on skin

Outside, cold air
Stand, and wait for rising sun
Red paint, eagle feathers
Coyote calling, it has begun

Something moving in, I taste it in my mouth
And in my heart
It feels like dying, slow
Letting go of life

(Hyena wakan tanka)
(Hyena wakan tanka)
(Hyena wakan tanka)
(Hyena wakan tanka)

Medicine man lead me up though town
Indian ground, so far down
Cut up land, each house, a pool
Kids wearing water wings, drink in cool

Follow dry river bed, watch Scout and Guides
Make pow-wow signs
Past Geronimo's disco
Sittin' Bull steakhouse, white men dream

A rattle in the old man's sack, see
Look at mountain top, keep climbing up
Way above us the desert snow
White wind blow

I hold the line
The line of strength that pulls me through the fear
San Jacinto
I hold the line
San Jacinto
The poison bite and darkness take my sight
I hold the line
And the tears roll down my swollen cheek
Think I'm losing it, getting weaker

I hold the line!
I hold the line!
San Jacinto
Yellow eagle flies down from the sun
From the sun

We will walk, on the land
We will breathe, of the air
We will drink, from the stream
We will live, hold the line
Hold the line
Hold the line
Hold the line."

"This song explores the contrast between the artificial world of Palm Springs and the Indian communities on the other side of the San Jacinto Mountains who have spiritual ties to the land. Gabriel told Uncut magazine April 2014 the song was written 'about the culture clash between Native America and present-day America.'"

#Texas #ChemicalPlant #Explosion Forces School Evacuations, #ShelterInPlace Order

By Jan Wesner Childs, November 8, 2023

At a Glance

- Anyone within a one-mile radius was advised to shelter in place.

- Winds were blowing about 10 to 20 mph toward the northeast.

"Diesel and flammable liquids were burning, KHOU-TV reported. The station cited Sound Resource Solutions president Geoff Harfield as saying the materials burning were not toxic, but a news release from neighboring Polk County noted records filed by the plant indicate it has housed turpentine, sulfuric acid, xylene and other chemicals 'known to have acute toxicity.'

"Blowing toward Polk County, to the north of #SanJacinto. People there were told to stay inside and turn off their HVAC systems. At least one public school there was evacuated and others were sheltering in place."

#Breaking

«A person believed to be Francisco Oropesa, 38, was arrested in #Texas, #SanJacinto County #DA Todd Dillon said. The arrest comes four days after the Friday night carnage in which Oropesa went to the home in the #TrailsEnd area in #Cleveland, about 45 miles north of #Houston, and opened fire on neighbors after one complained that shots coming from his adjacent property were keeping an infant from sleeping, officials have said.»
