@sellathechemist Yes, sadly no mention of frequent flyers or pointing out only a small percentage of the world’s population fly.

No mention of private jets emitting up to 20x more CO2. That comparison would have been good to have alongside the car, train and commercial airline carbon footprints.

Good programme covering a lot of areas people may have been unaware of.

And yes, I agree, these CEO’s don’t believe their own bullshit either.

@CarbonBubble

I have come to the conclusion that the only effective way to eliminate #FossilFuels is to do it on a personal level. Reducing my carbon footprint is a lens through which every decision is filtered. It works!

I know a lot of people who worry about climate change but never take steps to personally address the issue. Isn't it logical for us to actually live on the planet as if we intend to stay?

Lifestyle changes, purchasing decisions, and other forms of reducing one's carbon footprint sucks the air out of the fossil fuel industry. This impactful movement is growing rapidly. While we lobby for governments to change the rules (which may never happen) we can change our lives, save money, improve our health, and move the needle toward a better world for all.

No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.

Be the change.

Our collective decisions matter.

Flying is a first world privilege to set the world on fire. #StopFlying

“the industry is responsible for around 5% of global warming. … that might not seem like very big contribution. Except, only a very small percentage of the world flies frequently. Even in richer countries like the UK and the US, around half of people fly in any given year, and just 12-15% are frequent fliers.”

BBC · Should we give up flying for the sake of the climate?By Jocelyn Timperley

Same week as the hottest temperatures ever recorded on earth. Flying is a direct cause of the current accelerating collapse of our ecosystems and ability to produce food around the world. We can choose to recognize this and act now. We can choose to divest.

Climate response is up to us. Local response, local mitigation, local adaptation in our own communities.

In our book on Sustainable Sailing I've grouped some changes as "The big wins", so far I have:
- Abandon New
- Right Sizing
- Sorting out your poop
- Adding more simplicity
- Add more DIY
- Add more time
- Stop Flying
- Pareto Vegan

Of these "Stop Flying" seems incredibly significant (as a way of cutting #emissions); a challenge to a huge temptation when world cruising; and incredibly controversial.

What is your take on #StopFlying ? Do we push it?
