💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉 🗿😷:antiverified:<p>»Our home, Swannanoa, NC, was Ground Zero for Hurricane Helene. This little town is mostly gone now. But the people are not. And, just to let everyone know...we are getting plenty of help. FEMA is here, as is a massive swarm of volunteers bringing all manner of aid--in the form of food, water, and various cleanup services. </p><p>Our driveway was destroyed. Someone with heavy equipment and gravel showed up and repaired it. They did not ask to be paid--they just went to work and did it. A group of aid workers has set up a water distribution at the fire station that is providing WATER FOR OUR HORSES--meaning, 20+ gallons a day. My neighbor had a huge tree down (from our pasture) blocking his drive. Someone official (not sure who it was) arrived and removed it. </p><p>There are people everywhere zooming about on ATVs knocking on doors delivering gas, food, water--whatever. The sky is filled with helicopters. This place was wrecked, and is now being rebuilt, as if by an army of ants coming from all directions. I know there is no compensating for the suffering, and in some cases, the loss of lives. But if we felt terrified and alone for the first week, that's over now. </p><p>I look at this situation and think, well, it would be hard for anyone around here to be hungry right now. There is free food everywhere. You can walk up to the Baptist church and people are handing you barbecue sandwiches potato salad and when you leave they give you a bag of non-perishable food like peanut butter crackers, chocolate, fruit cups, etc. We don't need the help anymore so B has been volunteering and looking after others. </p><p>If anyone says FEMA didn't come here they are ignorant of the facts. FEMA is basically omnipresent, at the moment. Don't give any credence to the lies about there being no help for us. There is help. In abundance.
