Weird. The article praises informal transport for its flexibility and ability to serve nearly all, before immediately criticizing its "unplanned and unregulated growth."

Car dependency fuels loneliness, while public transport builds community. Shared mobility fosters the human connections that individual car ownership erodes.

I arrived to Frankfurt without delays Since I had some time for my train to Paris, and there were some nextbike bikes to rent, I went off to do some sight/infra-seeing. Unfortunately I must say Frankfurt is now pretty low on my list of cyclable cities

“if we know that #cycling is so good for our health, why is it not more central to our #health and #transport strategies?”
“The broad and interconnected benefits of #cycling span three key areas: physical #health, #mentalhealth, and societal #wellbeing. Together they offer different angles to promote healthier, more sustainable lives through one simple action”

Digital divides and sparse transport options plague both Global North and South. But the South has a surprising advantage: most people are not car dependent, and informal transport already serves them.

We’re looking forward to a week of fruitful exchange at the EGU General Assembly 2025 in Vienna!
Our team will present exciting work on hiWALK and hiBIKE – co-created tools to support active mobility for all – as well as a poster on high-resolution, bottom-up GHG emission inventories using open data.

Who needs control, autonomy, privacy (or even just rights) when you can have convenience! Maybe there's a silver lining in there for those who prefer #ActiveMobility, but it seems beyond reach
Finally a new video is up! I look at #scooter data to see if they are used for #ActiveMobility or mostly for a fun night out. The video is in the style of @nerd4cities because rumour has it he might visit my city. I can only hope this video doesn't drive him away. Yes, the video does end with a sleepy #cat.

Explore our custom applications: making sustainable transport accessible, safe, and dignified.
This bike tech shows how data-driven solutions can enhance safety and sustainability. We could adapt this at low cost for cities in the global South to make it affordable and scalable.

The problem isn’t just Toyota—it’s a system where car dominance is treated and sold to the public as inevitable, deepening mobility injustice, especially in the global South.

There's an important aspect to this World Bank report that Devdiscourse doesn't mention: Sustainable Transport Investment should include support and funding for informal and active mobility.

"There is a dearth of data on bikes and cycling in the Netherlands." Oh really?
Delft SenseBike is a high-tech bike for mapping/studying cyclist behavior in the Netherlands. But there is huge potential for the global South.

This is an interview my wife & I did on the Active Towns podcast with John Simmerman. In it, we discuss the kinds of things we've been doing in #Yellowknife #NWT to encourage people to be less dependent on their cars. Yellowknife is only about 8 km in diameter, so we could easily be the biking capital of the North, but most people over here consider cycling as recreation, not transportation. Give it a watch or listen. #activetransport #activemobility #cycling
