UK economic stats 🇬🇧 ♊☯️✞
AI takes our jobs. Can you imagine any government giving out generous universal income payments? (They will haggle over free transport for the over 60s.) The approaching loss of jobs with the new AI will not provide a government approved license for putting your feet up. UK economic stats 🇬🇧 ♊☯️✞
The Treasury should consider a wealth tax to close the growing gap in the public finances, according to a Labour former shadow chancellor.

Anneliese Dodds, who held the role under Keir Starmer in opposition, said ministers must have a “full and frank discussion” with the public about the “really big decisions” they had to take at this autumn’s budget. She joins a growing chorus of Labour MPs, not all from the left of the party, calling for further wealth taxes this autumn. However, proposals for an annual 2% tax on assets over £10m have been denounced as “daft” by the business secretary, Jonathan Reynolds. Government insiders have questioned whether it would raise any funds. UK economic stats 🇬🇧 ♊☯️✞
Answers to homelessness? In the United Kingdom, the word "prefab" is often associated with specific types of prefabricated single or two story homes built in large numbers after World War II, such as Airey houses, as a temporary replacement for housing that had been destroyed by bombs, particularly in London. More than 156,000 prefabricated homes were built between 1945 and 1948. Prefabs were also built in World War I, such as the still-occupied houses in Austin Village, Birmingham. UK economic stats 🇬🇧 ♊☯️✞
Robotec takes your job? Calls for Universal Basic Income (UBI): Some propose that, if machines produce enough wealth, a UBI could redistribute it. But this idea is politically divisive and still theoretical in most countries. Work is not just income—it structures life. Mass unemployment or underemployment can damage mental health and social cohesion. The danger is that automation will enrich a few and impoverish many—unless we redesign economic systems with social justice in mind.
