Corporal Denis Kinnell one of the soldiers rescued by the “Little Ship” Firefly. Corporal Denis Kinnell (1918-2008) recalled over 50 years later being rescued from Dunkirk in 1940 by Commander Bowen and Firefly. Denis had spent two days on the beach of Dunkirk. He swam out to the Firefly with three to four other soldiers and then transferred to HMS Anthony. #WW2 #dunkirk #operationdynamo

1. Marking the Anniversary of Operation Dynamo.
The little ships which rescued over 338,000 soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk. Many of the 224,000 British soldiers who were rescued were from Yorkshire. Individual names are not readily documented. These are a couple of examples of Yorkshire soldiers who were likely to have been involved in the evacuation.
