We spotted the XYZ Cargo bike at the National Cargo Bike Summit and had to follow up with MJ Somerville. Who doesn't want to build their own bespoke cargo bike (with a bit of help)? We love this idea and the doors it opens for people who otherwise might find the right fit difficult:

I love the idea of cities that are far more people-centred than most today, with properly flexible travel options and fewer cars… and maybe we’re not that far away (and not just in Utrecht). Today I had a large box to collect from my sister, so I had a nice run across London to her house, then a cup of tea, and then a PedalMe e-cargo bike arrived to take me and the box home. And it was FUN. More of this! #cities #bikes #ecargo #climate

@jks Thank you - yet another podcast added. Regarding your Living Well episode on "accidental gods" I am working on a small slice of the problem but it checks all the boxes in your talk. I propose combining a disruptive tech ('s) with a disruptive process (distributed manufacturing) by developing designs for simple vehicles like the "LEV" below that can be manufactured by small independent shops. I have been designing/building/promoting EV's for over 15 years now and have a good understanding of what is easy to do and what is difficult to do wrt building EV's. I made this graphic to show where we should be focusing our attention. Fewer resources, less total energy and much smaller infrastructure cost/footprint for local commuting. This category includes bikes and even heat/airconditioning for enclosed vehicles. Thank you for your work.

@annaleen I imagine small independent shops building simple 's like the enclosed bike-like vehicle below. Designs could be shared in an on-line catalog and downloaded for anyone to build , bikes/trikes/quads and other . is having 1,000 local shops instead of one mega factory that ships out to everywhere. Much like Thingiverse for 3-D printers - manufacturing over the internet.
