Playing around with FreeDATA (freedata.app/) app on 40 meters. What a nice modern application, can operate keyboard-to-keyboard QSO's and leave messages from a remote PC using a webbrowser. Seems like a nice modern alternative to #JS8CALL. It's based on the open source #Codec2 which is also used for #FreeDV and #M17. No need for proprietary software modems like #VARA anymore. If you like stuff like #VarAC or #JS8 give this a try! #hamradio #ham #freedata

The #FreeSoftware, #FreeData, #FreeCulture, and other communities can make a big difference by moving their communities to #XMPP - whether they are longstanding ones, or new ones.

Yes, there will be pushback. Pushback is the bread and butter of progress. You need to have the strength to keep moving forward no natter what.

Ideally, you will also debridge from proprietary/centralized networks. Or set a timeline for doing so.

I've tried it. It works. More people need to do it.

...this #FreeDATA app that is unable to see the USB Audio Codec choice for TX (only sees it for the input).

So again, reboot the box.

Then start FreeDATA.

Then go into Modem configuration to tell it the audio input/output ports, where "USB Audio Codec" appears for both.

Before rebooting, I even tried un-plugging and re-plugging the USB cable from the back of the #FTdx3000 - that did not make it re-appear.

So, I really like FreeDATA, but don't like the reboot-required BS.

Got the latest #FreeDATA installed on the McLinux box.

Most recently was on 0.14.something.alpha.1, but now on 0.15.9-alpha.1.

No longer an appimage, but instead ran the prescribed bash scripts to install and run. Had no issues with that.

But, as has always been the case, if I've run ANY other digital modes since the box was booted, the USB output audio device does not appear in the FreeDATA list.

I can switch between fldigi and wsjt-x and js8call with NO trouble. It seems to be only...

I got a weird one. I do #bim #programming and #detailing. I would like to do some positive changes for the #AEC industry. I happen to be an expert in some autodesk products. I also have used Blender and many other FOSS softwares. I have #3dscan ed with trimble and am site location poweruser. I am fluent in #csharp. I have been called a unicorn. I beleive heavily in #openformat causes. #freedata. I hate AI but am open to utilizing it ethically. Can I help advise somewhere needful?

@NO5IG
My 2 #HamRadio computers are a Raspberry Pi, & a 2012 Mac Mini running #AndysHamRadioLinux (xubuntu).

I've also a linux laptop not currently in use.

The McLinux one has been mostly very good at keeping its ports consistent past reboots, etc. Very helpful.

But I can only run #FreeData immediately after a reboot. If I have run WSJT-x, or JS8Call, et al, then FreeData will not be able to find both Audio ports. It finds one, but not the other (the RX audio port is missing, IIRC).
