Given we have a poverty line, beneath which we (as a global society) have agreed no-one should fall (even if in actuality we have not always managed to ensure that), perhaps we also need an extreme wealth line above which we would agree that accumulated wealth is too much for one family or individual?

Dhananjayan Sriskandarajah's proposal makes sense but might be difficult to deliver politically, but equally, things seem impossible until they are not!

The Guardian · It’s not a rich list – it’s gone far beyond that. We need to talk about ‘extreme wealth’By Dhananjayan Sriskandarajah

"This is not what a resilient system looks like and the outcomes of each crash reveals further weaknesses within that system, especially as it relates to #Inequality, environmental devastation and of course to the challenge far more massive than any economic system: #ClimateChange."

There is an untold truth in that post by @rbreich, one that makes it remarkable. No, it is not that inequality is ever-expanding, as professor Reich tirelessly tries to make us aware of.

It is the fact that that "biggest one-year increase ever" occurred in the closing of #Biden's term, while #KamalaHarris was promising Americans "not just to get by, but to get ahead", and "the price of eggs" was skyrocketing.

Which, sadly, explains the rest of the images.

UK social mobility is highly concentrated in London... which as the Sutton Trust points out is the only urban area really fulfilling the social transformational role seen in other countries spread across a range of cities... in other words: yet one more aspect of the social centralisation & concentration in London.

Not only are we wasting masses of talent & experience away from the South East, this compounds already existing regional inequalities!

The Guardian · London dominates England’s social mobility league with top 20 placesBy Heather Stewart

"Notably, the research debunks the myth that #economic #inequality is an inevitable and automatic result of technological and demographic changes. On the contrary, it demonstrates that #human decisions—how #wealth is shared, how #government is set up, and how #people decide to organize themselves—play a fundamental part in shaping social outcomes."
