domm<p>Today I opened 5 "bugs" (in fact feature requests) regarding <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/Koha" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Koha</span></a> Elasticsearch, QA'ed a rather complex one and did a code review on #37020 (bulkmarcimport dieing on large files). And had a very nice last day at the Koha Hackfest!</p>
domm<p>Today I moderated a discussion about <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/Koha" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Koha</span></a> ElasticSearch bugs and improvement ideas. It was very helpful for me to get feedback from experienced Koha devs. I still need to set up bugs in Bugzilla, though.</p>

I blame my brain for being mostly trained on sane Perl code to fail to recognize all the horrible corner cases he presented.</p>

domm<p>Today I fought a bit to get koha-testing-docker up and running (after not starting it for a few weeks). But I got help on the chat, worked it out (pulling containers was the issue) and submitted a merge request: <a href="https://gitlab.com/koha-community/koha-testing-docker/-/merge_requests/536" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">gitlab.com/koha-community/koha</span><span class="invisible">-testing-docker/-/merge_requests/536</span></a>. Dawn Tåke 🌙 :sparkletrans:<p>So we had a question on our online chat room thing. A person is trans wanted to change the name on their card and asked how to do so. This isn't an option on our OPAC/discover layer, but it is on the back end. I wasn't sure of the answer, so I waited to see what someone else says.</p><p>A neat new thing in <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Koha" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Koha</span></a> is "preferred name." It comes up in parentheses in Koha. Not sure what it does in <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Aspen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Aspen</span></a> . Might need to test that...</p><p>Anyway, it seems our rules to change that are you can do it over chat, just prove who you are with your library card number and a couple other bits of info, (I call this "20 questions",) and that will be amended.</p><p>To change the actual name however, you have to come in. I don't think it has to be changed on a legal ID, but you have to prove more acutely who you are.</p><p>I <em>suspect</em> we keep a note on legal name on file, but I don't know. </p><p>Still, it's nice that you don't have to be deadnamed at checkout.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TourmaLibrarian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TourmaLibrarian</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Libraries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Libraries</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TransRights" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TransRights</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Trans" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trans</span></a></p>
domm<p>Today I tried to extract a list of IDs stored in a JSON struct stored in a XML column stored in a MySQL table into virtual rows (one id per row), so I could do a select on them. Didn't manage it, but in the end it was fast enough to work with the IDs stored in a string and some regex. <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/Koha" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Koha</span></a></p>

Nate Allen<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/libraries" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>libraries</span></a></span> I'm giving a nonprofit some free tech consulting on a somewhat unique problem that involves managing a large library of so-called "dead" physical media (not books). I think an open source book library system like <a href="https://pdx.social/tags/Koha" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Koha</span></a> might be a good starting point for their needs but I don't have any prior experience with this sort of system myself. Any library techies out there who have used one of these platforms I could chat with?</p>

David Cantrell 🏏<p>I'm also looking for a replacement for <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Readerware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Readerware</span></a> for cataloguing my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/library" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>library</span></a>. Must be a desktop app for Mac, and ideally have a Linux version too. Must not be a web app (sorry <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Koha" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Koha</span></a>!). Must import/export data in a reasonably open format. Ideally it will "auto-catalogue" by grabbing data about ISBNs from the intertubes. Ideally it will support audio and video media as well as books. Ideally there will be a companion iOS app it can sync with. It can be payware provided there is no subscription.</p>
