@ai6yr @briankrebs OFC this targets #TechIlliterates and the only effective means here are:

  1. Teach #TechLiteracy instead of consumerism.
  2. Mandate #confirmation & #notification - #PopUp|s for every use of #Clipboard (similar to #webcam use by websites)...
  3. Ban #JavaScript - seriously!
  4. Ban #Windows, because it's a #Govware, espechally since #Windows10 and even more so on #Windows11 that is *insecure in every configuration!
  5. Put #TechIlliterates before a system they can't feck up. I.e. @tails_live @tails / #Tails for that reason alone (can't run such commands if they neither got #root nor any #persistent #storage to target).
  6. Normalize the use of @torproject #TorBrowser!
  7. #Teach #tech #literacy instead of #consumerism!
  8. Ban #GAFAMs and their shitty products!
  9. Migrate every #TechIlliterate to #Linux and don't give them administrative privilegues.
  10. Teach tech literacy instead of consumerism!

Learn more about #media #literacy -- knowing the landscape of the mass media, & being critical of what is said, or aware of what is left unsaid.

In #Canada, the majority of large news orgs are owned and/or controlled by right-leaning companies -- think 'Fox News' in print form. While individual #reporters may be dedicated to the craft, their #editorial staff are likely picked to be deferential to their owners politics.

Our celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth continues with the inspirational “Mae Among the Stars” by author Roda Ahmed and illustrator Stasia Burrington.

This inspirational story about real life astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison’s childhood proves the importance of encouraging children to become anything they want to be.

I'm really bothered by the replies to this post by @syntaxseed where people link illiteracy to the present USA President in several ways, while this is the result of decades of policies to gut education, e.g. the No Child Left Behind of Bush, and illiterate people usually end up in poorly paid and very unhealthy jobs. Illiteracy is part of the necropolitics of the class war.

In my EU country the Netherlands illiteracy has risen under Rutte from 1 million in 2007 to at least 2,5 million adults in 2020, IIRC.

How can a population be convinced a lie is the truth?

Stats from the National Literacy Institute:

21% of Americans are illiterate.

54% of Americans can't read beyond the level of a 11-year old.

57% of Americans have no education past highschool.

America ranks 36th in the world for literacy levels.

White US-born adults are the largest group with low literacy.
