A #leopard stands next to a young #gazelle or deer, not hunting, not attacking. When #hyenas approach, it does the unthinkable: grabs the fawn by the neck and climbs a tree, protecting it.

This isn’t fiction. Rare moments like this have been observed in the wild. Sometimes, big cats show what looks like compassion, or confusion. A lost maternal instinct? Curiosity? Or something deeper?

#Nature isn’t always predictable. Predators don’t always kill. Even in the wild, the lines between #instinct, #emotion, and choice can blur in ways we still don’t fully understand.

A reminder: the animal world is full of mystery, and not everything wild is cruel.

Trophies and body parts — primarily skins, claws, bones and teeth — are the most traded, according to CITES data. However, other data indicate that illegal trade in skins and body parts is widespread in Asia and Africa.
