This week in Ropeadope History… How about classically inspired Jazz with the Steel Pan at the front? We said Hell Yes, of course. Now it seems so natural, as Jonathan Scales has made this a reality for more than a decade.

I saw #CoheedAndCambria last night and picked up the tour exclusive variant of Father of Make Believe.
I haven't seen #CoCa since the #Neverender shows in New York in 2008 but they were as spectacular as ever.

Glad I finally found some time to read this study on sampling and time resolution of accretionary #climate #records. So much insight in this: from testing #dating and sampling methods to reconstructing original #environmental #changes from smoothed #reconstructions.

#NowPlaying Les McCann, Invitation to Openness (Atlantic, 1972). I bought this record when I was in college on the recommendation of the local record store clerk. The vinyl itself was pristine but the cover was a bit jacked up so the price was right. A fast favorite, the deeply soulful, slightly psychedelic approach to jazz has become the standard by which I judge all early fusion. McCann’s group on this one is absolutely top notch (Yusef Lateef, Cornell Dupree, Bill Salter just name a few), and the production is fantastic. It’s just *one of those* records for me.
