"Fascism never scared Liberals like it should scare you. As long as they benefit from the fascism they enable, Liberals will never be on our side."

As @pluralistic says about technology, so it is with policy: It's less interesting what it does, than who it does it *for* & who it does it *to*.

"You've probably heard the word "socialism" in the media. More often than not, it's used as a pejorative. Why is that? Is socialism really that bad, or is there something else going on? In this episode, we'll take a look at socialism at the very surface level. This video is intended to be sent to friends and family who may be familiar with the term, but don't really understand what socialism is all about."

JT on how cost-benefit analyses are used as a tool to make sure nothing that isn't profitable for the already wealthy (like here action on climate change) will ever happen.

And as I've said before, if you want to know why action on something so obvious is downplayed and ignored, or something minute suddenly is the only issue you should care about, the answer is '(protecting) capitalism'.

@parismarx on #SecondThought, helping explain that the billionnaire-fronted "cyber-libertarianist" problems currently poised to literally destroy the world has its ideological roots all the way back in the 60's hippie movement.

We've had two generations to counter the idea of #freedom as "the absence of government so They™️ can do whatever they want" with the actual fact that freedom means #justice; it means fundamental, inalienable #rights.

We failed at that. Hard.

You may have noticed around here that I tend to push back against sentiments along the lines of "The Bad People™️ have all the power & everything you think you're doing to stop them only helps them" - this is why: youtube.com/watch?v=iEnnUrYtCM

This "soft defeatism" (love that wording & will be using it mercilessly) is basically a form of criti-hype & goes against the very fiber of my being. If I believed that change was impossible I literally would not be alive anymore.
