@ip6li Jain.

Kovin sairaan harmaata. Huonekin täysin valkea mutta onneksi sängyn päädyssä jotain pehmustetta.

in other news, I caught up on a bunch of work today. I would like to share with you the brilliance of my #university's #IT configuration w.r.t our official email accounts.

On the left, the messages in my spam folder, which explain why I wasn't getting notifications of progress on an IRB proposal. On the right, an email from our official 'training' system, in which images are hidden because they aren't in the 'safe senders' list.

They tell on themselves all the time.

I still don't understand how an email address can be subscribed to a Google Group without confirmation - and that it isn't possible to report a Group without having that email address associated to a Google account just adds insult to injury...

(Yes, it's, again, about the current Google Groups spam wave, which is doubly annyoing because the Group also redistributes all the autoresponder mails from others that have been forced into a subscription...)

Hey everyone, just a heads-up: there’s a scam message going around claiming you can recover hacked accounts through the “JBee Spy Team.” It looks something like this:

“If someone’s scamming you or you think your account’s been hacked, contact the JBee Spy Team at conleyjbeespy606@gmail.com, on Telegram at +44 7456 058620, or via Instagram.”

I actually got hit by it twice and have already reported those spam accounts to our admin— they’ve been suspended. Stay cautious and don’t respond to any of these messages!

Trump paraphernalia spam from a Russian email address. Obviously, I'm not loading the images in this email. The links lead to a .ru domain, which I will likewise not visit.

I'm in the process of moving my primary email domain away from google workspace and I haven't configured spam assassin yet.

Putting this out there for whatever good it does.

#Email #Spam folders are a problem because they contain a mix of emails that are clearly spoofed and faked based on #SPF and #DKIM failures, along with others that maybe might, perhaps, be spam based on HTML content, language, whatever. We train people to expect Spam folders are usually wrong. But emails that fail SPF and DKIM should be taken seriously!

Email providers. Why not deal with this by either providing 2 SPAM folders or else showing emails that land in the spam folder because of the #DMARC p=quarantine policy, in red, bold letters, and with a "!!" flag, so people know to be extra cautious?

And when opened, give notices like the sending server is not authorized to send email for the sender or the from address is not authorized to be sent by the sending server.

Why not?
