Ninhursag, bohyně země, byla uctívána jako matka všech živých bytostí, která živí a udržuje život. Mýtus se však obrací, když se Enki zaplete do řady afér a přestupků. Jeden z takových incidentů zahrnuje Enkiho snědení osmi rostlin, což způsobí jeho nemoc. Ninhursag ho ve svém soucitu pokaždé uzdraví tím, že vyvolá síly různých částí jeho těla. Po osmém uzdravení je však Ninhursag Enkiho činy hluboce zraněná a rozzlobená. Proklíná ho řadou neduhů, včetně nemoci a neplodnosti.
