SANDÍA HIGHBALL

½ oz lime juice
¼ oz ginger syrup
1 oz watermelon juice
1 oz Aperol
1 oz Tequila blanco
float 1-2 oz seltzer

Garnish: mint sprig
Method: Combine all ingredients except seltzer into a shaker, add ice, and shake. Strain over a clear ice spear, add seltzer, and garnish.

Seen on IG anatomyofadrink channel. He took the Sandia recipe, created in 2016 by David Valdez at Simbal (Little Tokyo, Los Angeles; now closed), and turned it into a highball by adding soda water. I batched this up and served it at a garden party today — it was gone quickly!

1,700 #California workers, including 500+ #Teamsters, left in lurch to be laid off as major CA alcoholic #beverages distributor for 2,500 beverage brands, quickly winds down operations and ditches state to consolidate operations in home state of #Texas.

Many #CaliforniaWines stuck in middle have been reaching out to former competitor #supplychains to keep footholds in state with many millions of potential customers.

While #RNDC tries to paint picture that Democrat run #WestCoast state's more complex #taxation and regulatory framework was responsible, the main factor is bad biz failures at #Republic National Distributing Company, who lost many key #exclusive deals with big brands like #TX made Tito's #vodka, #Herradura #Tequila, #HighNoon and #JackDaniels whiskey etc. #RNDC has been known for poor worker relations, #unionbusting antics and had mismanaged much market share after awkward acquisition of CA's once prominent Young's Market #YMCO Distro arm.

VinePairRNDC to 'Withdraw' from California By End of Summer (Developing)Not even halfway into 2025, Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) has hemorrhaged key supplier accounts in markets across the country, and especially in California. Now, VinePair has learned, the country’s second-largest wine-and-spirits distributor will be departing the Golden State entirely at the beginning of September. Over the weekend, social media was abuzz with versions of this rumor.

Way back on June 4th, Julio's Liquors hosted Heaven Hill Distillery for Whisk(e)y Wednesday at Julio's Liquors. Part of the tasting lineup were the three "Grain to Glass" bottlings - Bourbon, Wheated Bourbon, and Rye. I ended up picking up the set as an interesting tasting flight to share.

I missed the Cape Horn Tequila tasting, as I was out of town for work, but I love the blanco and repasado, so I was always going to pick up the anejo once it was announced. I stopped in and grabbed one when I got home.

And while I was there, I noticed the Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 year was finally on the shelf. The local distributor had a lot of the old Nectar D'or to clear I suppose.
