Another new article, this one on and how it impacts new developers learning to code: newdevsguide.com/2022/12/19/wh

@IntegerMan Thanks, Matt - this is a much more balanced take than the "soon we won't need those annoying skilled people anymore" ones I've seen.

Swizec Teller had a good comment on tools like this when CoPilot came out: "It's an opportunity to own the outcome rather than owning the work."

Good to see you over here, btw! :)

@edmistond yeah, it's interesting to me - the whole direction things are going - but I actually had a student run into my office 3x the day I was writing this wondering if he was learning all of this for nothing and I literally just showed him the article. It gets emotions going and it's important to talk about the strengths and weaknesses of everything.

But I still remember interacting with Eliza back in the day and being mesmerized and this is something completely different than that.

@IntegerMan I'll admit - I tend to internally catastrophize, so I understand their feelings. My cynical side says there's too many "leaders" out there that would love to dump most of their skilled workers, and not solely software devs. Reality is probably going to be somewhere in the middle, though.

For me, the one downside to owning the outcome is I enjoy the day-to-day coding work. At the same time... a lot of that is probably "snacking" at my current seniority/experience level. :\
