I made the transition to and took the route. My experience has been positive, with the greatest drawback being game support on .

Otherwise, it feels less bloated. Everything I use is on my taskbaar, and I never open the start menu. If I need to, it is sleek and clean.

I also just like the look and various tools that we can download.
With the opecomibg update coming out, I am currently creating a live boot disk to see what it is like, and then I might make the switch from Ubuntu to Popos.

@Stark9837 what games aren't working on steam? if i have any issues with a game i just change the proton version and that typically works

only exception seems to be games with anticheat measures - although i don't play those games

@takishan

Stellaris and that nie bitWorld - Battlefield spin off. Proton doesn't always Lwaysbwork.

also has a few weird bugs

#Steam#Linux#Gaming

@Stark9837 i've played both stellaris and rimworld extensively on #fedora with proton with zero issues

maybe you are having some graphic issues that are bleeding into the game? what issues are you having?

make sure your graphics card drivers are installed properly and maybe use xorg instead of wayland. i don't know much about #ubuntu so maybe someone else can help out more specifically

@takishan

They main menu as well as the entire background dueing gaming just completely black. It is also very laggy.

@Stark9837 I assume that you used proton to play games via steam and it wasn't up to it's task for you to play as good as it run on your #Windows?

@improbite

I've tried to run games that run natively on as well as games that require , and it juat runs too bad or doesn't even launch. Honesty makes me feel reluctant to get a

@Stark9837 that's sounds not fun. Hope that most of problems will disappear when using @system76

@Stark9837 @improbite what games specifically? I have a steam deck and can try some stuff out if you want.

2 things to keep in mind:

1. You can install alternate proton versions alongside the official one that might help certain games

2. In my library of over 300 steam games maybe 1 doesn’t work on Steam Deck. YMMV but real world support is so good I don’t even really check compatibility and assume it works because 99% of the time, it does.

@Stark9837 @improbite strange - I've had nearly only good experiences using Proton (most titles only work w/ the experimental release). Which title isn't working for you?
*I'm on Tuxedo OS, which is an offshoot of Ubuntu

@Stark9837 @improbite Have you had a look at ProtonDB website for the games, if they are funky, there is usually info on what, if anything, you can do to make them happy.

Sorry if you've already gone there, but they were a huge aid when I was adding stuff to my Steam Deck.

@Grort @Stark9837 @improbite I always got a check on SteamDB before buy or run a game.
When the game needs some workaround to run, there is always someone telling how to do.

@Stark9837 I stream on Linux (AMA) and generally pressing Play works with Proton Experimental. I do have GE Proton with Warframe.

@Stark9837 Just in case you havent done so... In Steam setting (not a game's steam settings), you have to check enable both checkboxes in the Compatibility section, otherwise Steam will only show you games that have a native Linux build

@Stark9837 My overall experience with linux gaming is quite good. I made my windows -> linux transition 8 years ago.
And my gaming experience became better and better over this time, in my opinion the main wall today against linux gaming is anti-cheating programs, there are a lot of games that would run well on linux and don't launch because AC.

@Stark9837 Steam is the only reason im keeping Windows. Its so common when I start gaming theres some unexpected crashes for whatever reason, often after an update. Sometimes I can fix it, often not. I dont have the patience to troubleshoot crashes everytime I want to play for a bit.
