@ironicbadger transcode downloaded files is a show stopper for me. Smaller files for my kids iPad is a must when travelling.

@thornbill @ironicbadger Great! I’ll keep an eye out for future releases

@ironicbadger Enshittification of #Plex continues.
The only thing that keeps me from leaving is the fact that it doesn’t affect me since I have lifetime.
But it gets harder and harder to defend it.

@pax0707 @ironicbadger
Also a lifetime pass holder. I’m lucky that they can’t force server app updates on my NAS. I’m rocking a VERY old version and I don’t plan on updating it. Someday they’ll break compatibility with the client apps for that, at which point (or before then) it’s Jellyfin for me.

@pax0707 @ironicbadger The whole "Discover Together" sharing of what you watch wasn't enough?

@ironicbadger a decent AppleTV client. Infuse ain’t it.

@macjustice @ironicbadger Good pint, Swiftfin development seems to have slowed.

@ironicbadger@techhub.social
I cannot take Jellyfin seriously until they implement proper intro skipping into all clients, without needing a plugin. I promised myself I’d try it again once they’ve done so, and it at least seems like they’re very close.

in the meantime, I left Plex a long time ago and have been very happy with Emby.

@ironicbadger Jellyfin is almost there, luckily I paid for the lifetime ages ago so I should be alright for awhile. I hope.

@ironicbadger Have you _seen_ the way Jellyfin looks? 🤢

(Though tbf the Plex++ client they currently have in beta is no better)

@daniel @caseyliss @ironicbadger 💯 % agree! I love infuse and the subscription price is very reasonable.

I’m very happy indirectly started on Jellyfin. So I don’t know if I missed fancy Plex functions 😀

@pax0707 @daniel @caseyliss @ironicbadger More expensive on my side, but still excellent value for money :-)

@lucas3d @daniel @caseyliss @ironicbadger I’m grandfathered in at the old prices.
Not gonna complain.
;- ) =

@caseyliss @ironicbadger 100% my issue, the clients still kind of suck. But I am going to try again with Jellyfin with Infuse, that sadly won't help my external users since not everyone has AppleTV's and likely won't pay for Infuse if they did.

I have not seen the new Plex interface is it really that bad?

@glennbrown @ironicbadger I haven't looked at it in the last month or two, but it was /real/ bad at the time.

@caseyliss @glennbrown no question they lack fit / finish / polish but the core experience is decent.

infuse is a decent stop gap as linked by @daniel but it would be a dream come true for jellyfin to match the plex _feel_ which has been true for a while now.

i should probably also take a look at emby, it's been a very long time since i did that after their licensing rug pull a long time ago.

@caseyliss @ironicbadger you need infuse, the Mac/tvos/iOS client for Jellyfin.

@ironicbadger Its on my 2025 to do list to migrate to jellyfin. But it's pretty low on my list so probably won't happen until the 2nd half of the year.

I know it will only take an hour or so but so will several dozen other tasks. And they never just take an hour.

@ironicbadger I left Plex a couple years ago when they began sharing with users on my server what other users on my server were watching. Kinda spits in the face of "we don't share your data with third parties" and "we don't see what you have". My friends and family were overall happy with the move, but they missed some of the nice-to-have's that Plex offered... at first. 😉

@ironicbadger I haven’t booted my plex server for over a year. Rely more on @getchannels for video content streaming now. I wonder if my lifetime plex pass from maybe 20 years ago can be sold 🤔

@ironicbadger I started with Jellyfin but pinched my nose and made the transition to Plex because of paper cuts. The biggest being TV tuner. It just hangs the tuner (doesn’t disconnect it when you stop watching) and the guide data is convoluted. I considered donating to their project, but they seem to be against people trying to guide the feature roadmap. Which is strange if it’s actually what the majority wants. LeSigh. Hopefully they’ll get there..eventually.
