Flashback to January 2022, hiking in fresh snow and seeing something move. Took a fair bit of standing still before I saw it again, it would weave in and out of nooks, as if looking for “snacks” that were snoozing.
@jerzone That's a treat to see!
I had one looking at me poking up through a rotten log while walking into my deer stand in Nov. Eyes glowed from my headlamp to help me notice him. He was fully white already, but there was no snow there yet.
@idropyou It was a fun challenge, they'd pop out of sight and I'd guess about where to point camera next. This area has lots of granite boulder piles, and downed trees, easy to get from one spot to another without emerging.
@jerzone Oh, that sounds like good habitat. Our current selective logging operation will help the population of animals like these. All the tops left down give them cover and also cover for what they eat. Fun seeing stuff other than deer and turkeys.
@jerzone oh man, that's tough! Maybe right in the middle. Oof.
@jerzone
Wow! A white weasel! How rare of a sighting is this?
@TimKStanton No idea, I figured they usually turn white in the winter. Then again I have old photo of something in that genus sneaking under our deck that's decidedly not white.
