Oh hullo - Looks like the chap who produced the highly successful StackOverflow is having a go at producing a Twitter replacement...
@strangetruther it's more of a forum/chat than it is a direct twitter replacement
Well - maybe that's BETTER!
@strangetruther @codinghorror Discourse is fabulous. My company has used it for a customer forum for 7 years so I’m using it a couple of hours a day. Super happy with it. Though I *would* like to be able to mark a post as unread.
Oh! It's been going 7 years?!
@strangetruther @codinghorror if you mean Discource it’s closer to 10 years old. With a constant stream of improvements.
@provuejim @strangetruther fantastic! Glad it is working well for you. We're at v3 and continuing to evolve..
@codinghorror @strangetruther yes, we’ve been using v3 for several weeks I was looking forward to the new chat feature but so far it hasn’t gotten any traction in our community. But Discourse has been really fantastic for our community, I promote it to anyone who will listen and I even gave a conference talk about it.
@provuejim @strangetruther @codinghorror thanks for the kind words, be sure to check out https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-2-3-0-beta11-release-notes/119924 you can enable the defer feature in your account settings, additionally bookmark reminders often can fill this role as well
@samsaffron @strangetruther @codinghorror That’s awesome! Mastodon for the win! I do have an account on meta.discourse.org but I missed this. Darn, I could have been marking as read for over 3 years. I will use this almost every day.
