New Year -- and I completely missed to share my probably greatest achievement of last year: Three weeks ago, I successfully defended my PhD! Still super proud and happy. Thanks to my advisor, all my collaborators and everybody who supported me on that journey!

Benjamin Hättasch
#BTW23 was a great experience so far. And our contribution WannaDB was awarded as Best Long Paper. How cool is that?! I'm very proud and happy I could present our work in front of such a big, interested audience. Learn more about our paper here: https://www.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/systems/systems_tuda/news/newsdetails_277376.en.jsp

Benjamin Hättasch
Good Morning Dresden! This week, I am at #btw2023 and will present our Paper "WannaDB: Ad-hoc SQL Queries over Text Collections" (Wed 14:00 Talk, Thu 10:00 Poster). Already had some great discussions, very happy to be here with a lot of colleagues from TUDa Systems Group

Benjamin Hättasch
P.S.: I want to use the chance to point out again to the talk on the sustainability of deep learning that @_ngeisler@twitter.com and I gave at #36c3 and that I referred to multiple times: https://youtu.be/UMAXI3lvUU8

Benjamin Hättasch
Yesterday, I was invited to speak at a workshop on digitalization & AI ethics for the Austrian Federal Ministry for Public Service (BMKÖS). Fruitful discussions, great organization, and inspiring other talks by Rania Wazir and @spielkamp. Happy I could contribute my part.

It's nice to see that BMKÖS wants to actively shape the way AI might be used in public projects and set a reasonable frame for that upfront. I'm very curious what will develop from the workshop series.

It was great meeting you all -- and worth the train driving hours to get to Vienna and back. Thanks for having me there, @AITtomorrow2day@twitter.com @PBiegelbauer@twitter.com @SvenSchlarb@twitter.com @ro_bbic@twitter.com.

Benjamin Hättasch
Annoyed by clickbait? We all are. Wouldn't it be great if the computer gave you the "answer" to the clickbait headline without you having to read the article? To work towards this goal, we created a corpus and a shared task: https://link.tuda.systems/clickbait-resolving-challenge

Benjamin Hättasch
Chatbots are a useful alternative to classic web shops. At #vldb22 we presented a demo how you can leverage existing business logic and databases to create a conversational interface with minimal overhead: http://link.tuda.systems/CAT

Benjamin Hättasch
You can find the code and the paper behind the link above. Make sure to also check out our cool demo video: https://link.tuda.systems/aset-video

Benjamin Hättasch
You need a table of facts to test a hypothesis? Trivial on an existing database, just run a SQL query to restrict or join information. But on a pile of text? ASET helps you to fill a table ad-hoc & in an interactive way, without learning or training data: https://link.tuda.systems/aset

Benjamin Hättasch
Hi (again), I'm Benjamin, a #CS researcher from Darmstadt, Germany, working on the intersection of #NLP & #Databases. I teach computers 💻 to read & understand large amounts of text 📚 so you don't have to. See 🧵 for some of my projects
