Just heard about this in a podcast, and I'm really curious:

Do you have a voice in your head that talks to you?

Bonus question, if you wanna talk about it: What is that voice like? Does it have your voice? Your personality? Can you have a dialogue with it? Are there certain situations when it's especially active?

Because – I don't have that at all. On my own, I think more abstractly, or visually.

One exception is that I sonetimes "pre-formulate" a sentence or a question I'm about to ask in an important context.

@blinry It's different whose voice it is, usually it's somewhere between undifferentiated neutral and my own, but during roleplay sessions, when writing characters in stories or while reading, the voice can take on other characteristics, too.
And I have both visual and "abstract" thought channels usually running in parallel too, but these different channels are often part of a coherent thought process.
Also, I sometimes like to switch my inner voice from German to English just because it feels different.

@bwana @blinry Can I ask how your abstract thought channel is distinct from visual? When visual thinking has come up as a topic, I describe myself as being a highly visual thinker, but that my visual thoughts are more abstract rather than actual images. It's like the shapes of things, but also the shapes of ideas. Maybe I'm not a visual thinker after all, but a third option that few can relate to.

@hosford42 @blinry What I mean by "abstract" is really hard to describe because it's mostly ideas or concepts before they really become clear words or shapes. A sense of direction, logical connections, relationships, sizes, sequences, associations. It kinda feels like they're always below the surface of other form of thought, and they're usually accompanied by shorter blobs or longer bursts of more concrete thoughts - words, shapes etc. - but overall, they flow through my mind as something more vague. They usually become language, visuals or other things if they need to, and especially my inner voice can overpower and "swallow" them easily.
