Now that I have a whole afternoon of sewing machine experience I'm branching out into bigger projects. You know, like making bike frame bags.
LearnMYOG sells patterns (plus free ones) and videos talk you through how to sew all of the elements.

Six Rolling Wheels sells completed bags, their videos more meditative.

Here's a couple of free plans. Running belt would be a good one to try first, nothing extra just a simple belt for holding the phone. Maybe replace zipper with a tab of velcro, since I want to quickly grab/stow the phone to take photos.

I like how Morgan rigged the bag to snug in and clip to the back rack using tire levers. He has an earlier video of making the triangle frame bag, just learning as he goes.
Another DIY video, Salty Beard goes into more detail on how he designs and sews a fork bag. I like the “coffee bag" bottom design.
@jerzone cool, always wanted to learn it more, but so many to learn skills, so little time
@jerzone That's a good website to know, added it to my bookmarks!
@pete Cool, I like the colors! I think that's the same machine I first sewed on as a kid.
@jerzone It was my grandmother's. I've since replaced it with a modern pseudo-industrial Toshiba one, which is ok but I wish I'd gone for a 70s/80s model that has a bit of heft to it instead. Mine can power through fabric or leather quite happily but just feels so flimsy and lightweight.
@pete The machines in these videos, now those are built with rebar and cast iron. ":^)
My favorite is the one Frenchescar uses to sew zippers, it’s like there's two robo feet trundling along, laying down stitches. Although the strap sewing one is a bit of a marvel.

@jerzone I've an old Nike zipper bag with a decent belt. So far it works best for my 5g Moto phone by leaving zipper open. I'm not running though, just walking.
I bought a specific phone "jogging" fanny but the belt is too wimpy and the bag is much too tight for fast access...
Haven't tried it out yet but a Horizontal NiteIze clipped to a separate belt seemed like it should work better. Stuck some junk inside to "form" it to fit my phone better late last year and then just got use to using the Nike bag...
@jerzone Now that is an really cool website, thanks for the share - I have saved. Also found some other projects there that look good to try, though sourcing the right fabrics locally is the first step
@jerzone Hit a bumpy stretch of trail beforehand and your drink will be well shaken too
