This week Biden forgave federal student debt for 804,000 borrowers. A judge upheld the decision—proving yet again that Biden has authority to cancel student debt.
Furthermore—if we can bail out Wall Street with $10T & cancel $2.1T in billionaire taxes & cancel $800B in PPP loans—then we can cancel $1.7T in predatory student loans.
We've bailed out corporations and billionaires long enough. Let's elevate working people.
@LeelaTorres @autonomysolidarity As far as I know it's just the UK. Representatives from Signal & WhatsApp were on the news recently saying that they can't just create a backdoor for the """"good guys""" (needed extra quotes) if there's one there anyone determined could use it. So given that privacy is their main selling point it would mean they just have to stop service.
@autonomysolidarity If you think this doesn't affect you please bear in mind that WhatsApp, Signal & Wikipedia have all publicly declared that they will remove service if the bill passes.
@autonomysolidarity
No really. Only on UK. I am not going to relax my security standards because they went coo coo.
If they cannot open my messages, so be it
@autonomysolidarity After thinking about it, I think the tech companies that might be affected should go offline for a couple of weeks leading up to the vote. That should get the discussion started in earnest
@autonomysolidarity I'm hoping the tech companies will do the right thing, pull their products from the UK market. This is the time to take a stand on encryption with zero back doors. The final result of the actions in the UK will be the roadmap going forward. One might be that tech resists and exits the market, leaving the citizens worse off that they were before. The citizens revolt, and force their government to change the decision. The other is that tech folds, and we all lose.

Elon Musk lies a lot. He lies about being a "utopian socialist." He lies about being a "free speech absolutist." He lies about which companies he founded:

@CraftComputing where did you get the stand-up arcade game behind you in your videos?
After upgrading to #macOS Ventura 13.4, every time I switch network interfaces or wake from sleep, all #DNS requests take 10-15 seconds then eventually (20 mins later?) start resolving without delay. Happens on multiple networks, other devices work fine. Tried disabling all the things, confirmed DNS servers are responsive, etc. but no luck. Anyone else addressed this? #networking #sysadmin
#Tesla ‘Autopilot’ has been involved in far more crashes than previously reported. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/06/10/tesla-autopilot-crashes-elon-musk/
Some of the decisions by Elon Musk — such as widely expanding the availability of the features and stripping the vehicles of radar sensors — appear to have contributed to the reported uptick in incidents, according to experts who spoke with The Washington Post.
This is only the second time a former president has been indicted. The first was also Trump. (According to ABC News)

@macsimcon @snazzyq Also the new Prius is pretty slick looking, you’re not giving a fucked up lunatic billionaire money AND the build quality & reliability on the worst Toyota is likely better than anything you’ll find on a Tesla 3 (my dad is still driving a 30+ year old Toyota pickup)
@Wraithe @macsimcon @snazzyq We have over 200K miles on our Prius, going fine. Next one will be a plug in hybrid though
@Wraithe @macsimcon @snazzyq my son’s getting a new car soon. It’s going to be a Kia Rio. Why?
Sticker: $17.8K, he has $5000/$6000 as a down.
Mileage: 36 combined, 41 highway.
Comes with CarPlay on the lowest model, a great warranty and he can actually afford it.
EVs and hybrids are priced out of a big chunk of the market, he couldn’t charge an EV at home anyway, so that’s a problem. Nor could he charge at work.
And again: the cheapest EVs are around $10K more, & hybrids are not much better
How much onboard storage and memory does Vision Pro have? If I’m perusing my photo library using iCloud, or have too many app windows open at once, it could be a sluggish experience.
Can Vision Pro be used with some kind of headphones for privacy? I wouldn’t want to work in an office full of people using VP’s built-in speakers.
