I don’t care if Reddit offers a paywall option for Subreddits. Unless I’m missing something: I could create and built a community over there and at some point ask for a paid subscription, right? What is the difference then compared with Substack or Ghost?
@numericcitizen difference boils down to who is building value in these spaces. Substack, Ghost, Patreon etc derive value from their authors/publishers and the relationship is inherently one-sided; subscribers knowingly want to support their creators, whereas Reddit’s value comes from users. In other words the community should receive compensation when they move in this direction. Otherwise feels like a slap in the face to those who like contributing for the sake of teaching/engagement.
@Citizen427 very valid point. I agree.
