Smart City Boxes in the wild!
In beautiful and sunny weather, we set up the first four SmartCity Boxes on the Digitales Testfeld "ErsteMeile" (test field "FirstMile") in Ingolstadt, .
We developed the boxes as part of the #5GoIng project and improved them in several iterations. They are completely energy self-sufficient and designed to visually warn vulnerable road users using a special feature of the 5G technology.
For this to work reliably, tests are still required and planned with the rest of the infrastructure of the test field.
@zeroiee Is there any further information about the devices, e.g. what exactly they display?
@InnoIng The boxes have a light strip with which we can illuminate the surroundings in different colors. For example, we can make the boxes flash red on both sides of a road if a pedestrian and a car are approaching dangerously at a traffic crossing. With our technology (and that of our project partners), we want to recognize dangerous traffic situations and react to them with lighting. This can be particularly useful in the dark or when sight is limited.
The light strip is mounted on the side and looks something like this: https://techhub.social/@zeroiee/110984047200612916
The beam angle is selected so that the road is illuminated.
@zeroiee Who exactly are "vulnerable road users" and what are they being warned about?
@zeroiee This story is obviously useful to the people who made this device, and only them.
