I think the only "legitimate reason" of any #aas / #AsAService offering is when it's an optional upsell like some #hosting or #support contract that incurs real, obvious and tangible costs just to be able to facilitate them by virtue of requiring personnel and/or infrastructure.
- And by that I mean real "#AddedValue" and not an #AntiConsumer choice to kill any #UsedSoftware #market based off #OTP #licensing!

Ich finde es einen Skandal wenn #Antifa #antifarecherche unsichtbar gemacht werden und die Ergebnisse für sich geclaimt werden. Und damit auch noch Spenden gesammelt werden. Wo geht das Geld hin? Ich bin misstrauisch, dass es an die richtigen Orte fließt, wenn so unsolidarisch gearbeitet wird.
In Zeiten wie diesen ist Solidarität so wichtig und sich gegenseitig Props geben.
Auf Kritik wurde meines Wissens nach nicht reagiert und einfach der Spendenaufruf weiter verbreitet.

Solche Angriffe müssen wir auch 2025 wieder erwarten – nicht nur in Ostdeutschland. Vor allem auf dem Land sind CSDs deshalb auf Unterstützung angewiesen.
Gene Kranz, 91, the legendary NASA Flight Director, was bestowed with the AAS Lifetime Achievement Award on May 15, at Space Center Houston. The award is given every 10 years.
Kranz served as NASA's 2nd Chief Flight Director, directing missions of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, including Apollo 11 and Apollo 13.
Kranz is best known for directing the Mission Control team to save the crew of Apollo 13.

- And in #business cases, where there's a "pay per use" payment structure (i.e. expensive machinery like cranes in #construction get rented per machine runtime & availability onsite per hour and some leased CNC machines) it does make sense to collect telemetry so technicians (who may be onsite or not) get alerted instantly and show up with the correct tooling and parts.
As for #dishwasher|s, even the industrial-grade ones used in canteens of universities or chemical laboratories ain't in such setups:
- They just have 1-2 "warm spares" hooked up and ready to take over if one machine fails, and they just have the cleaners and janitor regularly maintain them.

The #AAS has announced that the summer meeting 2026 will be held at a central location and the summer meeting in 2027 will be fully online to reduce the carbon footprint of the meetings. This is a small step in the right direction, and I hope that other organizations follow this example.
If we replace every second meeting with an online meeting, we can still meet in person, but immediately reduce the footprint associated with meetings by 50%. It will be also much cheaper and more inclusive. A win-win-win.
